--- Shane/Jeff/Neydisa Lude 1: Seaside Grave --- Session Start Sun Apr 07 15:00:58 2002 --SESSION START-- >> Neydisa slowly awakens, her body stiff and sore. Sounds of clanking come from outside. « I'm going to assume I don't notice the letter from Allen in my bag till however after this event scene.. ^^ » «ooc: Jeff is outside because he was watching. Shane is outside because it's harder to move the Bird with the gate inside it. » * Shane takes his wrench to the machine once more. «ooc: Rar! Must smash gate! » Mmmm... A little more... * Shane tidies up the calibrations. * Neydisa flutters her eyes open, shifting under the blanket placed upon her. >> The cockpit is empty, and the door to the main hallway is open, showing that it, too, is empty. «ooc: Er, except for Ney. » Mmm... I must've... * Shane wipes sweat from his brow, face once again covered in the trademark grease that shows he's been tinkering for hours. «ooc: You all had those dreams last night, BTW. You only vaguely remember them, except the Kema dream, which is clear. » «ooc: Ney had a Kemalude?! :o » «ooc: ;) » <> * Neydisa holds her head, feeling sore. "Right, the other day... where is everyone?" She listens to the clanking as she sits up in the reclined seat. <> «ooc: He still can. He just doesn't have a complete idea of it. » «ooc: No. You've been moving things for the last five hours. » «ooc: ;D » <> >> Outside, Shane is tinkering incomprehensibly with the Gate Generator. And now to unleash the ABSOLUTE FORTUNE ZONE! «ooc: ... » «ooc: ...strike that. » « o_O » <<*snicker*>> * Jeff is currently sitting against a tree, watching Shane toy with the gate and turning his mask over in his hands absentmindedly «ooc: you have a mask? » <> <> * Neydisa takes a few testing steps, her body not cooperating quite right, holding the blanket around her yet. She tries to look out one of the windows, bringing her eyes into better focus. * Shane sits in front of the gate, powering it up, and pulls out his incredibly-well-worn notepad. >> Neydisa gradually regains full control over her body. She's sore, but she can function. « I'm assuming I can see Shane and/or jeff now ^^ » «ooc: Yeah. » * Shane fiddles with some knobs ocassionally, and launches into a large string of math. * Shane occasionally glances to his right and squints, and then will fiddle with the knobs some more. * Shane repeats this cycle until uninterrupted. «ooc: until == while » «ooc: ...not Alain's game, Grue. :D » <> «ooc: what, the bad grammar? ;D » * Neydisa goes back to the seat, catching a few more breaths. "Shane and Jeff... but it feels so empty in here, still." «ooc: Ya. No future tense. » «ooc: I didn't put anything in quotes, did I? ;_; » «ooc: Keep doing stuff, guys. This is all you for a bit. » <> « zath sent letter! yay! ^^ » * Shane smiles at his last calculation. * Shane sets down his notebook. Jeff, do you think she's up yet? * Shane stands up, and powers down the gate, again looking off into space at his right for a while. * Jeff doesn't seem to hear, lost in reverie. * Neydisa looks down at where her travelbag was left upon the floor, noticing a small note sticking out of it. "?" * Neydisa bends down carefully to detach it, opening it up as she sits and reads with a curious expression. «ooc: You can pose the actual letter contents or not. Your call. » « actually.. do you wish for me to? » «ooc: It's your call. » «ooc: Well, actually I'll do it if you think it should be done. » « go ahead :) » <> >> "Neydisa, you are sleeping and I daren't wake you, for your exhaustion is apparent. But I can't leave without saying a few things." >> "I wish I could see into your soul with the clarity of crystal waters. My vision is clouded by duty, fear, and perhaps even regret. I look into your eyes and I see hope. Another time, under other circumstances, perhaps-- " <> * Shane stretches, then walks to his pack propped against one of the Bird's struts, and wipes the grease from his face with a hanky. >> "But now our paths diverge for a time. I know you are strong and wise. You can take care of yourself. But my thoughts will be turned toward your safety. We've all been through a lot, and I fear you have more than the rest of us. Just remember that we all hold you dear to our hearts. Or at least, I do." >> Some writing is scratched out here. >> I've got to go play diplomat, hope everything goes well in Timney. Keep smiling and don't worry about me, I'll be safe even if I have to run away again. Next time I see you, I'll bring tea! >> Clipped to the bottom of the letter is a simple sketch of Neydisa. She's looking skyward and she's smiling very subtlely. «ooc: Jeff, this is WARPG. The dithering around is 75% of the game. » «ooc: hee hee. Tea. » * Shane walks up the loading ramp to check in on the Shaman. * Neydisa looks a bit sad, but it soon turns into a reluctant smile at the last line. "Allen... I didn't even get to say goodbye to you..." She looks over the drawings slowly, with her small hands. "Do you see hope in my eyes that i don't...?" <> * Shane stands in the doorway, catching that last sentance. ...did...I intrude? * Neydisa is sitting in the chair upright, blanket wrapped around her, intently reading a letter as Shane arrives. She looks up, realization coming not so immediately. "I.. no, you're not..." * Shane walks up to her, and checks her tempuerture by laying the back of his hand on her forehead. >> She seems all right...much better than the day before, in fact. She'll be stiff for a while, though, thanks to the beating she took on Malduc. * Shane sounds a little less gruff right now. Maybe it's the tiredness, maybe it's the relief of having beaten the clock after all. * Neydisa sighs, looking back at the sketches as he does so complacently. Hrmm... You're still a little rough around the edges, but you look a lot better. I'm sorry if I worried you... I must have missed everyone leaving... Neydisa... stop apologizing. I thought we went over that. * Shane smiles. Ah, right. No more apologies... maybe it's better this way. I'm sure I would've... probably not wanted to elt them go. « er let » * Shane nods, walks into the engine room, and returns with a bowl with steam rising from it. * Shane sets it down, and crumbles a few of his herbs and berries into it, and some things from his backpack, stirring it afterwards. * Shane tastes it, adds a few more, and tastes it again before handing it to her. Here... my father always made this for me when I'd worked myself to the bone as a wee one. ...He said that my... mother taught him. It might be a Baskar dish... I don't know. * Shane looks uncomfortable after that last sentance. * Neydisa takes it without protesting, sniffing a moment. "...a Baskar recipe?" * Shane shrugs. It's... pleasantly bitter, and it always makes me feel better... ...but that may just be my memories of better days. Heh. * Neydisa tests it. ...memories of better days... mmm. They always encourage me, too. * Neydisa coughs a moment. "I see what you mean about the taste... Thank you." * Shane goes for a pocket, and almost instinctually swallows a few pills... before catching himself. * Shane looks at his hand. "Yeah... no problem..." * Shane puts them back, slowly. * Neydisa watches him a moment. "Shane... I wanted to ask you something." * Shane looks at her. * Shane arches at eyebrow. I know I've.. never really asked this before, but I think i've realized something. About what i've been doing up till now. ...oh? If.. when.. we go back to Port Timney, and things are quiet, and the Gate and the Bird, and even you are safe... * Shane listens. * Neydisa looks a bit sad. "I don't know where your travels might take you from that point, but I feel as though I should remain there for a time. I think I left something very great there when I left for Rosetta those several years ago." "...something great?" >> Meanwhile, Jeff goes on walkabout and finds the answers to his questions about his new way of life. Then he saves the world and knits a sweater! <> Yes... it's.. well.. my strength. The place where this entire journey started. I need to come full circle before I can really know what I'm supposed to do... <> ...I...see... Well... hrmm... If I keep on this path, I'll just keep failing... and what if something happens to everyone because of that. -_- You've been failing? Neydisa, you are no failure in my eyes. * Neydisa shakes her head. "I know how everyone else feels... it's not you. It's never been you." * Shane smiles. You want to go home, then? I just need some time to believe in myself again. I've come this far... You should go home. Not many are able to when they want to. * Shane frowns. * Neydisa sniffles a bit. "And.. i do miss my parents... I'm sure they'd love to see you..." Heh... Perhaps. * Neydisa has another drink. "I'm just making this, my only request of you. But I won't maroon you... I'm still needed. As long as you need me, I'll be here." ...Once we've dissembled and hidden the gate, our immediate danger is over. I'll be willing to bet that only I'll be activly sought by Adlehyde... so... * Shane nods. You're still going to the Dreamlands with me, right? It's not immediatly pressing... so I can come back later... There's so many signs, Shane.. so much I can't understand, because my eyes are still clouded. Just.. some time.. I know I can go there again... * Shane nods. How are you feeling? Are you up for some walking today? I figured today we'd do something incredibly useful, and much safer than the activities of the last month. * Neydisa puts down the cup. "I'm sure I could. jeff looked a bit lonely outside as well..." * Shane nods. «ooc: we have to stow the Bird, still? » « I'd assume so? » «ooc: yeha. » Let's hide the Bird, and we can start in on the last leg of this little ordeal. You can fly, yes? * Neydisa gets half a smile at those words, encouraging her. "If I can do anything, it's that... I did promise you." * Shane nods. You stay here while we load the gate. And finish your broth, young lady. * Shane smiles wryly at that last bit. He seemed to've been doing an impression of someone. * Shane heads outside. * Neydisa blinks a few times. ^^ Ah.. y..yes.. of course. Jeff, you there? * Jeff looks over at Shane. "Yes?" * Neydisa sits back down, and takes the broth carefully to the cockpit, not quite expecting that from Shane. « er reverse those. and afk a brief sec :) » Neydisa's up. Let's load up the gate and get to the hiding place... * Jeff nods. "Right." * Neydisa places one of the sketches Allen drew near the dash, looking at it again. * Jeff stands up. "We need someplace to set up, too.. you told Allen you'd have that gate for him soon if he needed it, didn't you?" * Shane nods. I have those coordinates. We'll set it up in the cave * Jeff stretches a little, cracking a few joints, and slips his arms into their opposite sleeves for a moment before approaching Shane. «ooc: OK peeps, let's move things a bit. As it is I think I'll have to break this into two sessions. Sorry, my fault for starting late. » « don't worry » « i don't think I'm in any condition to run som, as my eyes are already feeling strain. ^^ » «ooc: yay! :D » «ooc: ...I mean, 'bummer'. » «ooc: Oh? no SoM? » « I simply can't follow 8 players without my eyes exploding o_O » * Shane moves to one end of the gate generator, and prompts Jeff for the other, and begins the slow process of loading it. * Jeff lifts his end and starts moving it into the bird >> With Jeff's help, loading the gate doesn't take as long as it might otherwise. After a bit of strain, it's sitting in the loading bay. * Shane grunts like a little kid, and exerts serious effort to move his end of the deal. * Neydisa dutifully finishes the broth, as she waits, spinning the pilot's seat around a bit to watch them load the device that started this all... «ooc: Technically the Pastels started it all. D: » « well ^^; » <> * Shane collapses into the copilot seat after loading it, looking phyically spent. ...I... (pant) ... * Jeff follows Shane forward. "Neydisa, you're up. Feeling better, I hope?" ...Hikaru may've... been a dumb grunt... * Neydisa tries to smile to Jeff as he enters, and show him she's alright. ^^ It's a noble effort, even though he knows better. ...but he was ideally suited... for this grunt work... I think so. I really have to stop making a habit of this, don't I? * Jeff smiles at Shane. "You should wait until I'm out of earshot to say stuff like that. I'm the person who as always helping him move that thing, remember?" Heh. But you're obviously not a dumb grunt. * Shane smiles. <> I'm glad you're still here... «ooc: what do you keep saying about Mind? » <> <<;)>> «ooc: Jeff's never done blatantly stupid things. Like hitting Shane. ;) » «ooc: Hikaru, on the other hand, never does blatantly smart things! <:D » * Jeff chuckles. "Hikaru's not so bad either, but I'm a little irritated with him right now." «ooc: Main power turn on! » I hope he's alright. And on that note, are you? I saw you deep in thought outside. « to jeff of course » I'm fine. I was just thinking about things, trying to figure out what to do once we get things settled «ooc: Well, I have a lot think think about, seeing how I'm FUCKING DEAD » <> I've been too... but I guess we should find a better place for that first. Is everything secure? The gate seems ok, and I have all my stuff.. Shane? * Shane nods, trying not to move. * Neydisa takes a few even breaths, and begins to go into a familiar startup sequence of the Metal Bird... getting back into the swing of things one at a time. «ooc: Say when. » «ooc: ....when? » <> * Neydisa warms up the engine, secures the doors, checks pressure, hand moving to the throttle, course defined on her map. "Just leave this to me... one more time..." « go ahead ^_^ » «ooc: ...er. » «ooc: You were going to gate the thing there, I thought? For the sake of stealth? You can open a gate and then fly through it, provided you turn off the generator after. » «ooc: You don't have to, of course. It just increases the chance that someone will notice, since the Bird is loud. » «ooc: oh, right. » « oh is this right? ^^ » * Shane gets up with noticable effort. <> « you can nuke my last line theoretically :) » Neydisa... The gate should form just ahead... «ooc: I'll tweak Ney's last comment. We'll assume the thing is set to take you to the area around the cove? You would probably fly it through the gate, so that's OK. » <<*duck* ;)>> * Shane revs up the generator. >> The Gate Generator hums to life, purple energy coursing through the gemstones and projecting through the lens. «ooc: All systems go? » * Neydisa nods, waiting for her opportunity to open ahead... once the image forms to her familiar mind, she takes it as soon as she is able. >> A large portal forms in the air ahead, shimmering and nearly invisible but for the fact that the sky is still twilight on the other side. « I am so going to have purple infested dreams tonight I swear.. ehehe ^^ » «ooc: Shane pops one everytime the gate revs up. » «ooc: Hee. » « take it away Gm :D » *** Gayo sets mode: +m --PAUSE!-- How do we get home? Shaman, er, ma'am, we... Please call me Neydisa! Well then Neydisa, observe! * Shane twirls around and opens the gate. >> BEEEOOOOONT Wow! Shane! You're amazing! Gya ha ha! Ain't it the truth! --RESUME!-- *** Gayo sets mode: -m « LOL » «ooc: Hahaha. » « That ruled. ^^ » >> The bird blazes through the gate and vanishes. The portal turns in on itself like a reversed glove, then winks out of existence, leaving them in the dim skies above southwestern Seim. Below, the sea laps at the shoreline. There are no towns in sight. «ooc: da-da-da-da-da-da-DA-DA! » «ooc: You can see where the cove is from here, Ney. It's a bit dimmer here, since you've travelled quite a ways east. » « true... ^^ » * Shane turns off the gate once they've passed through. <<*snicker*>> «ooc: erection... failing... » * Neydisa blinks several times, the shift slightly disorienting, as she appraises the immediate vecinity and then bring the Bird lower to cruise near the waves, towards some of the rockier areas. >> The bird rocks violently once or twice as it sets down on the water, then settles into the motion of the waves. That was certainly interesting. * Neydisa looks relieved. "I'm glad this is a seaplane as well..." * Shane walks back to the cabin. No perhaps you both see the possibilities for the gate as an engine? * Shane smiles proudly. «ooc: Wo == Now » * Jeff smiles. "Yeah.. we'd have looked really foolish to drown here after all we've been through... not that we could, I suppose." «ooc: ... » «ooc: No == Now » * Jeff nods, looking to Shane. "No kidding. We just went halfway around the world in a couple seconds, didn't we?" * Shane nods. * Neydisa stays alert, guiding it with a slow, deliberate cruise into the beginnings of a calm, sheltered cove. It... is a really amazing thing... If only I could find a little more power for the gate... «ooc: who gave us the oxygen on Malduc? » <> I don't know if this is the best place to use the gate again, but there's plenty of sea life here... «ooc: Oh, the time limit was for the gate. right. » <> * Shane nods. «ooc: It has it, yeah. That's why the moss grows. » The oceans hold more life than the lands do, according to an overwhelming number of biologists... >> The twilight shines off the softly lapping seawater, throwing dancing, kaleidescoping shapes of light on the rocky walls of the cove. Once the engines spin down, the area is completely tranquil save for the movement of the waves. * Neydisa tries to maintain her control until the Bird comes to a full rest, dropping all power to minimum until it's just the rythmic ocean waves's song in their ears. Hrmm... ...well, time to fulfil an Onus. * Neydisa sighs contentedly. Well.. what do you think? Quite suitable. Well recommended, and well flown, dear Shamaness. * Shane smiles. «ooc: It's so unnerving not to have an NPC to interject. » Now to check in on our prodigal mage in Adlehyde, as I promised. If it's as isolated as it looks, this should do wonders. * Shane walks back to the gate, and plugs in the coordinates for Allen's closet. I don't think anyone would look here unless they truly meant to, or they got washed up in a storm... Could be some time before we hear from him, though. I doubt he's sitting outside his closet just waiting for us. >> The gate hums to life yet again, opening a much smaller portal which displays a view of the closet, empty. «ooc: Except for, you know, clothes. » * Shane nudges the gate forward for a view of the room. « ah, lovely pinprick spycam ^^ » <> * Neydisa meanwhile, rests in the seat, listening to the waves go back and forth. >> The gate slowly pushes through the door and into the room -- it's somewhat difficult to control precisely, but afford enough of a view to show that the room is empty as well. «ooc: I'm going blind here, sadly, since I haven't luded Allen yet. I have a pretty good idea of what I intend to do, though, so... » «ooc: what time is it in Adlehyde? » * Jeff looks out the front of the bird. "It's strange.." «ooc: Early morning. » «ooc: wouldn't he be in bed? » * Neydisa looks aside to Jeff. "What is?" «ooc: I'm going to go with no on that. » «ooc: rgr. » * Shane closes the gate, and sets in some new coordinates. The young lord seems to be okay... It's kind of peaceful here. It's just suddenly seems strange not having to be doing something, or chasing something, or fighting something. * Jeff grins «ooc: Right then. let's go do, chase, and fight things! » * Neydisa leans back, looking out as well. "It is strange... but it's also a welcome feeling." * Shane punches in the coordinates he'd tested for the Epitaph. * Shane hesitates on opening it, and instead walks up front. * Jeff nods. "Yes." * Shane sees the Shamans staring at the sea. * Shane squints. ... «ooc: BTW, when you first open a gate it almost always shows a weirdly tilted view until you correct slightly. » «ooc: Since you're cutting directly through the earth to save distance. » ...what are you looking at? «ooc: makes sense. » * Neydisa blushes a bit. "It's just been awhile since I've been here." Just the ocean, Shane. I... see... ...how close are we to your home, Ney? «ooc: some distance away, but closer than you've been on the trip thus far » Port Timney... it's a good sail south-east from here. It shouldn't be hard at all to go there at any time. * Jeff makes sure his back isn't against a control of some sort, and leans against the wall. « er west, sorry » «ooc: Leaning Against Things: Jeff's Favorite Pastime! » « forgot we endedup southwest of siem, not southeast :) » <> Ah, so... this is pretty much home for a sailor, then? Well this cove is near a series of channels that cut through the lands of Seim, eventually emptying into the sea of Timney, and then to the rest of the world's routes. It's not very used anymore, what with steam boats commonplace... * Shane nods. My father took me here sometimes on his sailboat, and I used to gather some of the rare shells around here. I don't think there's many places I'd feel more comfortable. I understand. I think. ...I don't think I have a place like this, though... * Shane ponders for a bit, before shaking it off. * Neydisa smiles a little. "Don't worry Shane. Everyone finds a special place, you just have to know where to look..." «ooc: BRB. Finish up talking. » * Shane looks up into the dusk sky, at the two moons. ...perhaps. * Neydisa follows his gaze. "You think it's up in that ocean of stars?" * Shane looks down. I don't know... But I need to go anyway. The stars.. «ooc: back » «ooc: STARS. » * Jeff frowns for a moment, then shrugs Jeff? If things continue as they are, you'll probably get that chance someday. * Neydisa ponders something, then runs her eyes over to jeff, wondering what he is thinking. * Jeff looks up, and laughs. "It's a crazy dream, Shane. But if it might make you happy.." * Shane looks down. At any rate, we should lay very low until Allen can report to us on the current state of Adlehyde before assembling the things we need to sheild the Gate Parts from Scrying. * Jeff shrugs again. "You two deserve that. Everyone on Filgaia owes us one, though they'll know it." <> Heh. I'll be compensated for my tasks. * Neydisa sighs, settling into the pilot's seat, and bringing the blanket over her. "Right now, all I need to know is the sound of the waves... it's always been enough for me." I'll make sure everyone aiding me gets what they deserve before I leave... Well, I have some plans for the time today. I can go alone, or you may accompany me if you so desire. It should be intresting and very safe. * Lucca-away is back (gone: 2hrs 19mins 33secs) *** Lucca-away is now known as Lucca «ooc: ...he hopes. :D » Oh? * Shane nods. I'd like to rest here a little more, if that's alright... I shouldn't push my luck just yet. * Shane nods again. It'd be good to have someone at the gate, anyway. I'll teach you how to power it on and off, in case you need to prevent something from coming through. No matter where you go, just come back here and you'll find safety. It's the best i can gvie you for everything... Thank you, Ney. * Shane turns to Jeff. You ever hear of The Epitaph of the Sea Wind? * Neydisa nods to Shane a bit, giving a warm smile, and leaning her head back. "You're always welcome. both of you." The Epitaph of the Sea Wind.. Isn't that an old tower..? * Shane leans over and presses a few buttons that have yet been unused, depresurizing the cabin, and opening the windows to allow some sea mist in. * Shane smiles back at Ney. Yes, but it's more than a tower... * Jeff frowns. "And isn't it supposed to be full of monsters?" ...It was the laboratory of Zepet Roughnight. It's been looted, but there are sealed parts of it. ...unreachable, and impossible to break down without bringing down the tower. * Neydisa is obviously thankful, resting while they discuss plans at length. ...We're going straight into those parts. There *shouldn't* be anything hazardous. No monster could survive in an enclosed secton for over a hundred years. Everything biological needs to eat, yes? I.. uh.. don't. * Jeff scratches his head. You're not a monster. «ooc: But what if it's haunted! Ooo-oo-oo. Hey, all groups need someone who's comically scared of ghosts. Why don't we have anyone who's comically scared of ghosts? » «ooc: we have someone who's psychotically afraid of all spirits! ;D » «ooc: and if I see them... I don't think they'll last long. » There are zombies and ghouls and stuff like that, though. It might be safe, of course, but it couldn't hurt to be ready if you're sure about this «ooc: Heheh, true. » * Shane nods. Well, I'll feel safer if you joined me, but... * Shane reloads his gun and cocks it in a single motion. ...I have taken care of myself for years beforehand. Most situations have never come near the recent weeks in terms of hazard. Can't argue with that. Fighting Demons and Old Gods and Mad Queens... Ashes. We should have songs written about us. * Jeff laughs. "All right, what the heck. I'll come along. Always interesting to see something new." «ooc: *sings* Those crazy fuckers / They kill Queens / But they are not what they seem / One is dead / One is not quite right in teh head / and the other one has ears that flop around in the breeze! » Neydisa? «ooc: ...O_o » «ooc: Gheh! » «ooc: There, a song written about you :) » «ooc: ! :D » * Neydisa chuckles. "You're probably right about that..." «ooc: Although techically Ellena isn't there. Oh well. » Heh. <> «ooc: Oh quiet you! ;) » Ney, if you need to ever kill the gate for your own safty.. ...just pull this big yellow and black-striped lever here, okay? <> All the way down kills the power couplings. All the way up rejoins them. * Neydisa looks over. "I hope it doesn't come to that... but I'll rememeber.." * Shane nods. I don't want you getting injured because of my folly. Never touch any of the other controls, though. * Neydisa grin nervously. "Ah, believe me I won't... I'm still vexed by that whole thing to be honest." ^^; I wouldn't want anyone accidentally opening a hole to the Abyss and letting Ragu Ragla upon the world. That would be bad. «ooc: Dude, the rigobrite summon was a ONE TIME ONLY THING ;) I'm never gonna live that down, am I? » <> «ooc: what happened with Rigdo? » «ooc: I had a really crappy chant that made no sense :D » « the mirror poem » «ooc: Oh! Right! :D » «ooc: at least all of mine for Duras Drum are sufficiently creepy and evil! :D » « rune fondler :o » «ooc: It was something like "white celery poncho! Poncho celery white! Rigdobrite come here!". Except dumber than that. » * Jeff smiles. "I hope she doesn't have to shut the gate, personally. It's a long walk from Seim to here." «ooc: Yeah, something like that, Gayo. I'm SORRY. GEEZ ;) » * Shane nods. See you in a bit, Ney. << Rigdobrite! White rage falls down, rage burns rage, down falls rage white! Rigdobrite!>> * Shane hits the 'initiate' sequence, and opens the first door. >> The coodinates generate a small window to a coastal nightscape. Nearby, a great tower looms, dark and grey, lopsided and crumbling from decades of neglect. Here and there, bits of metal reflect moonlight from beneath the battered masonry. «ooc: Bwuhuuuhuuu! » <> * Neydisa nods. "I'll be here... don't do anything too crazy, alright?" «ooc: Need to pull in closer, you're outside at thge moment. » «ooc: Dude, I should really use white celery poncho. » Heh. Have I ever done anything crazy? * Jeff grins. "Yes." ... If we ignore this last month or so though.. «ooc: Incidentally, it's about early-to-mid October. » ..then maybe not. «ooc: One month of game time takes about one year RL! :D » Shall we go? « remember, Shane needs to aim the gate farther inside ^^ » «ooc: They'll probably have to go in and out a few times anyhow. Not all the sealed areas are connected to each other. » * Jeff looks skeptically through the portal "We can't get into what you're looking for from there, can we?" * Shane fiddles with the scope a few times. Damn, my plans to rid the world of a wiseguy zombie foiled by eyesight. * Shane smiles wryly. They can't all be winners, I guess.. * Jeff blinks, then grins again. "Sorry, I'll close my eyes next time." I'd appreciate that. * Shane hones in on the first area. * Neydisa chuckles, glad to not be alone just yet... <> «ooc: what is the mask? ;_; » <> * Shane shrinks the gate to a dime-hole, and nudges it against the first-wall. «ooc: What does it look like? » <> <> <<...>> «ooc: it's like a zombie mask. Open eyes, nothing else. A perfectly round beatific face. » <> >> The viewhole pulls closer with dizzying speed, winding up inside the tower in a blur of motion. In the entranceway, monsters slouch about, oblivious to the spying. The floor is covered in debris, and here and there the ceiling has fallen in, revealing the floor above. It's a testament to the tower's design that it hasn't collapsed. >> One narrow passageway appears to have been buried under giant hewn bricks during the attempt to clear it. Zeroing in it, the portal goes momentarily dark as it passes through solid rock, then enters a small stone room. The light shining through the gateway from the bird is the only source of illumination here. «ooc: Most of the tower is still lit by the ancient tech, but this area is cut off. » * Shane pulls out his Particle Emitter. «ooc: You can't see well enough with just the tiny circle of light to tell what's in here yet. » * Shane widens the portal, and shines it in. «ooc: Hey, baby, want to see my Particle Emitter? » « hehe ^^ » «ooc: Jizzotronic Eminations! Run before the MultiPhallused one demands out undersexed! » >> The light shines on a dead end. At the place where the wall meets the floor, half-buried under silt and dust, is what looks like a metal box. >> Strange technological implements are strewn around the box. Hrmm... * Shane widens the door to allow entry. * Shane cautiously looks around, snapping his glasses into place. Small room... «ooc: Per check? Magic Sense? » >> The sensation is eerie -- it really is a gate to a different part of the world. This was obviously a closed passageway -- there's nothing else here, and, with the debris in the path, only room for one or two people. «ooc: do the strewn pieces look like traps? » What was this room for? Storage closet? * Neydisa watches the activities of the gatemaster as it were. "Looks like some kind of hidden vault..." << "Jeff, could you get that for me?" "Sure"*steps through* "Sucker!"*shuts gate*>> «ooc: There's faint ambient magic everywhere here. Per turns up nothign in particular. You recognize some of the bits of stuff ... they look like old, trashed components. The room appears to be a dead end wth a box at the end. You couldn't begin to guess. » * Shane nods without turning around. «ooc: The eccentric design of the Epitaph of Sea Wind is legendary. » * Shane walks in, and approaches the debris. *** Gayo changes topic to 'Shane/Jeff/Neydisa Lude 1: Seaside Grave | Epitaph Sea' >> A few of the parts appear servicable, others unrecognizable. At the very least, they're scrap metal. * Shane starts handing the scraps to Jeff. Could you put these into storage? * Jeff takes them as they're handed across. "Sure." And bring back some handcarts for the future, if you would. No need to break our backs. >> Jeff is handed an armful of random technological knickknacks. * Shane examines the box. >> Got Junk * 6! * Neydisa muses on how surrel this activity is. ^^ « er -real rather » * Jeff walks to deposit the junk in a storage room, and looks for a cart of some sort. « going to fire up some dinner too i think, since I'm passive here now. :) » >> The box is made of simple iron unlike most of the tower's metal, and has rusted somewhat, though its imprisonment seems to have warded it from the worst of the damage. It has a lock buried beneath the dust, but looks as though a swift kick would break it. * Shane walks to the bird, gets a crowbar, and gently pries it open. <> <> «ooc: No. » «ooc: a Cat would be different. » * Jeff << comes back with a cat. However, on closer examination, they're strung together in a strange net of random junk. «ooc: These parts are less useful, you can tell. » «ooc: They've been modified somehow, though. » * Shane kneels down, trying to discern a use. «ooc: take them out, or not? » «ooc: will they stay connected if I do? » * Jeff comes back, pushing a cart in front of him «ooc: Looks like it. They're not wired delicatley, just strung together. » * Shane looks over the contraption for controlls. >> What visible controls exist have mostly been ripped out -- most of these parts look nonfunctional. * Shane gently removes this device, and caries it to a workbench in the engine room. * Shane turns off the Emitter. What in the Hells...? * Shane starts chanting. <> >> The mesh of random devices lifts out easily. It's rather heavy, though. On closer examination, the parts are all hard and heavy, but defunct or otherwise useless. They're lashed together tightly with leather and metal. «ooc: Sustain upon it. » What is it..? >> It's too badly damaged for Sustain to work. You can tell that at a glance. «ooc: Components have been torn out and stuff. » Hrmph... «ooc: I was hoping Sustain would've given me insight... » «ooc: Nah. » ...that is the question, Jeff... «ooc: If the thing's broken beyond repair, it won't do much. » * Shane lights up, and sticks an arm through each loop. Hrmm... yes... ...not very fashionable, though. * Shane examines it from this new standpoint, lifting the rest up and on like a shirt. Straps... and... What did it do, though? >> Weighed down nearly to the point of falling over, Shane manages to "wear" the mesh of junk. If it ever served a function beyond protection, it's long since lost the ability to perform it. It does look fairly strong in a crude way, though. Strngth enhancement, perhaps? * Shane looks for conduits. That looks unwieldy.. * Shane nods, and starts to remove it... >> The remnants of wires can be found here and there, but it's too far gone to even tell what it might have done once. I've had similar ideas in concept... Wearable machinery... mechanized armor. Like the Golems, but much smaller. * Jeff blinks. Could that really work? This one might be repaired with a great deal of work and much more information. Realistically, no. The concept remains sound. It looks like this was canibalized for another project. Maybe... * Shane opens an empty cabinet and stores it. Let's go on to chamber #2. >> The thing makes a dreadful noise when he sets it down. >> Got Junk Mail! «ooc: ARRRG! » <> « hehe » * Shane swings his light onto his beltloop, resets the gate to a pinprick, and zooms to coordinates #2. <> «ooc: Yep! You can't buy it though. » <> «ooc: This one's of better quality, but it's been really badly trashed. » * Shane applies the same technique, gliding up to it, shrinking it as small as it'll go, sliding in until the resistance subsides, and slowly growing it. <<*the tower collapses*>> >> The second area of interest is a completely sealed metal chamber on the second floor. There was once something painted on the wall facing the antechamber, but it's been seared off by a botched attempt to bomb through it. Shane pushes through in a similar manner, and this time enters into a lit chamber. Hrmm... * Shane opens it to door-sized. « Just warning you, I've having weakening flickers, so if i go, please don't be angry. ^^ » «ooc: Oh, no prob. » «ooc: roger » <> >> This chamber is also very small, but is of much higher quality than the first. A few more pieces of unidentifiable 'stuff' lie around, as they seem to in most parts of the tower, but the object of interest is a dirty old silken drawstring bag that appears to hold a club or stick of some sort. It's the only thing here of any real note -- the chamber may have been built just for it. * Shane does the 'suspicious-Shane' routine again. «ooc: Oh, right. » >> A faint, stale aura of magic emanates from the bag. Whatever's inside is probably weakly enchanted. * Shane collects the junk for Jeff again, and moves to the Bag. >> Got Junk *2! * Shane gingerly opens the bag, wary for traps. >> The bag is cold and musty. It's anyone's guess how long it's been here. * Jeff sets the junk on the cart this time, watching through the portal * Shane looks inside. >> A weighty, finely-crafted rod slides from the bag. It's beautifully polished, and has jagged threads of silver embedded directly into it like lightning bolts. Holding it, Shane feels a faint tingle, somehow more aware. «ooc: One sec... » * Shane blinks a few times, readjusting. Jeff... * Shane walks to Jeff. No documents... no technology to study... * Shane frowns. «ooc: Heh. Were you there when they fought Bog Dole? :D » Ever onward, though. «ooc: *VERY* bad man! » * Shane performs the same actions to get to vault 3. >> The next room is a storage area, completely empty...it has a functioning but locked metal door, and apparently someone managed to open it at some point before. Moving on... * Shane performs the same actions to get to vault 4. >> A shambling monster notices the gate, snarling and approaching it, but it glides by too fast for it to follow. * Shane fiddles with the knobs some more. >> Shane slides the gate around for a few minutes before locating another sealed vault. <> «ooc: Not much. EXP requires challenge. » «ooc: yeah! Let's kill it ! » « ^^; » «ooc: How about if we jump out of the gate, kill it normally, then jump back in? » «ooc: Powerlevelling with the gate! :D » >> This room is more spacious than the last, but still somewhat cramped. It looks like the remnants of a control area -- a shattered viewscreen fills one wall, and an old, decaying computer terminal sits below it. This terminal isn't an ancient one -- amazingly, it appears to have been cobbled together from mundane parts, decades before the mainstream use of electricity. Nonetheless, it's badly damaged. * Shane will play with it for a little trying to pump it for info. >> The computer is hopelessly damaged, and at any rate the display screen is ruined. However, the fuel cell that powered it is intact, and there's a small, locked strongbox stowed under the terminal. hrmm... * Shane removes the Cell, and inspects the strongbox. «ooc: You can salvage some useful scrap from the computer, but it's totally decayed. You can't find any of the data-storage black boxes you're accustomed to. » >> The strongbox is padlocked, and in fairly good condition, though rusted. The cell looks almost fully charged. >> Got Fuel Cell! * Shane takes the crowbar to the lock. «ooc: I summon the power of the Simple Machines. Lever! » >> The lock doesn't want to give. Shane's not strong enough to pop it, though he does bend the box lid somewhat. Jeff, a hand here? « hehe.. ^^ » «ooc: ...? » <> * Jeff steps through the portal and over to Shane. "Let me give it a shot.." >> Jeff effortlessly snaps the lock, prising open the strongbox to reveal what appear to be catalogued index cards, tightly-packed and segmented by metal dividers. Oooh! « I think i shall leave in 30 wether we're done or not. ^^ » «ooc: S'fine. Sorry. » « not your fault. :) » Cards.? * Shane kneels down, looking through them, careful not to disorder them. >> The cards are so close together that they can't be flipped through. However, pulling one out slightly, Shane sees that they're completely devoid of any sort of writing, but covered with odd rectangular holes that appear to have been placed in them deliberately. <> Hrmm... * Shane pushes it back in. Jeff, bring the machine... This is something valuable. * Neydisa shifts a little. "Sounds like you made a big find..." * Shane looks through the gate at her and nods. This'll take some work, but who knows what old Zepet discovered and never shared! The machine probably translates these cards into a recognizable language... That's.. * Jeff shrugs. "Seems like it'd have been a lot easier to just write it down, but what do I know." * Jeff carefully attempts to pick up the terminal >> The terminal detaches from the wall easily enough, the connecting cables worn almost into nothingness over the years. It's heavy, but he manages. * Neydisa squints a bit through the artifical doorway, happy that something good came of it already. >> Got Junk *2 and Old Computer! (the latter won't appear on the inventory since it's too big to carry around) «ooc: the 2 junk represent unsalvagable generic parts. » « lovely junk :D » <> «ooc: Junk's nice to have. It sells for 300 gella apiece. :D » * Jeff brings it back through the gate and sets it down on the cart, carefully « hey and we're near siem. they love junk. :D » * Shane looks around the room one last time for scribbles on the walls or some such. >> Nothing. Zepet's other records must be somewhere else... * Shane exits, and moves on to the next chamber. >> After a lot of searching, nothing else turns up...the higher floors have decayed into nothingness. On an impulse, Shane brings the searching window all the way back down, *through* the ground, and discovers an entire basement level, completely sealed off as far as he can tell. Unlike the top of the tower, this place is entirely made of glittering ancient metal, untouched by time. Oddly, the room is empty except for a stairway leading even further into «ooc: it's really well-lit down here. I'mm hold down things here." « er I''ll » The only place I've seen that looks anything like this was.. ..oh my. >> It does in fact look vaguely familiar...the metal and lights resemble those of the ancient ruins of the Golden Age. * Shane nods. * Jeff looks at Shane ...The Yggdarsil labs. Just the stairs. There's no evident lock or latch here. * Jeff looks around as well, on guard now and watching for threats Hrmm.... let's continue down. The trip is long, and it seems a good thing that they aren't expected to walk it. Finally, they arrive at the bottom floor. When they disembark, the stairs cease moving. The door swings open easily. «ooc: This takes concentration, BTW » * Shane waves Jeff through, concentrating. * Jeff steps through. "Impressive." * Shane shrugs. >> The large room beyond is a startling sight. It used to contain furniture and bookshelves, from the looks of it, but most of that has been charred into an unrecognizable mass. Half a bookshelf lies on the floor, crammed with documents, many ruined completely. The mighty metal walls are badly dented and charred. >> The door clangs shut heavily as Shane ceases to control it. * Shane looks heartbroken at the destruction. *** Mia_Ausa (Fluffy@h00010321f608.ne.client2.attbi.com) has left #warpg There was something in here that someone wanted to die. ...there must be a way to reconstruct this. This much power and technology... ...it can only be... a cappuchino machine! «ooc: ... » Hrmm... Discouraging... Not a good sign? «ooc: You have two free cells and one mostly-unused one in your thingamajig. There are a couple spares in the Bird. » «ooc: Hurray for universal compatability. » «ooc: there were 3 buttons? » «ooc: 4, one on each wall. » « if you go with the anime definitions those cells are compressed life energy, like living batteries. :) » I don't know if I have enough cells to look around. «ooc: Sustain might work, but it'll be costly. » «ooc: Also, you don't know how much power was in that cell before you used it. Coulda been nearly spent. » «ooc: I need that MP-regen Mental :( » «ooc: I'm hoping it's the latter option. » «ooc: You have like 50 carrots, don't you? » Let's look where we are, now. «ooc: Wait, you have 4 cells, 3 unused. Forgot. » « remember Shane, whatever carrots you use can be siphoned from my stash upon returned. ^^ » <> «ooc: If they return. :D » Right. * Shane wakls to the catwalk. «ooc: you can't. » «ooc: eh? » «ooc: the catwalk is back a distance a way. The south door just opens onto air. » <<*plummet*>> * Shane looks out. >> Shane can peer out the door. The catwalk now leads to a separate door a fair ways to the right (your left while looking out). * Shane frowns, and looks down. >> Down as far as the eye can see... «ooc: You're on the same level vertically but you've moved horizontally even though the cube hasn't moved. » * Shane walks to the center of the room, removes the spent cel, putting it in his pak, and starts chanting Sustain. <<*shove*>> >> The machine comes to life momentarily, as if there were a cell on the pedestal. «ooc: if you want to push a button, you have about 30 seconds to do so. » «ooc: are we moving again? » «ooc: No. It only reacts to buttons being pushed. » * Shane presses the left one again./ «ooc: But now you can push a button, if you want to. » Good thing I've developed this magic... >> Once again, the room shifts violently. This time when it stops, it's even farther away from the catwalk, and the left-hand door opens onto gear-filled oblivion. >> The pedestal beeps. * Shane looks at the Gear-Filled oblivion. ...looks like... Autocthlonia... kinda... >> It looks pretty much the same as the gear-filled oblivion out from the other door. «ooc: It's more elegant than autothonia. » «ooc: But yeah, there's a vague similarity. » « * Gear Filled-Oblivion winks suggestively back. » « sorry I'm wierd right now. ^^ » .oO{ Kema? Are you there? } «ooc: This could take a while, from the looks of it. If you want to jet, Rasis, you can. Actually, we can postpone anytime you guys want. » >> Nothing. Perhaps the wards are preventing it somehow... Blood. <> * Shane casts again, and presses Left again. «ooc: Good stuff, then. » >> The room shifts violently again...this time instead of just moving to the side, it rises up, shifts, then lowers. As it lowers into place, another wall of metal clangs into place, barring the left door again. This time, however, the right door is open onto nothingness. «ooc: 16 MP » This is getting scarey. * Shane loos at teh ceiling. What's the point of all these doors if they don't go anywhere? >> Nothing. The south door, however, shows that they're now on the *other* side of the catwalk, one 'room' away. * Shane sustains and hits the back wall's button this time. Well, there must be another destination. Keep an eye out for other catwalks or things on the distant walls to aim at. Will do.. Man... I'm a magical battery... >> The cubs lurches southward, then rises and abruptly starts going north again. Finally it lowers. Now the top and right doors point outside to the gearpit, but the left door opens onto a similar room. «ooc: ...er... » «ooc: there is no top door. Sorry. the bottom door *also* opens into a room. » «ooc: there are more rooms to enter? » «ooc: Yes. They look similar. » «ooc: one left, one down » «ooc: You're currently in a room with LRD exits. LD go to rooms, R goes to nothing » * Shane goes L. «ooc: looking outside, the catwalk is nowhere in sight now. » * Jeff shrugs, and follows >> Shane goes through the left door. This room has doors in the same places, though the bottom one leads to a wall. «ooc: Doors in LRD, LR lead to rooms. Just came from R. » >> The pedestal in the last room descends and one pops up in this room, similarly empty. * Shane looks around this room. >> There is a button on each wall, as with the room before. «ooc: what doors in here? » «ooc: Doors in LRD, LR lead to rooms. Just came from R. » «ooc: I need a map ;_; » «ooc: ... » «ooc: :D » * Shane heads L. «ooc: I'm assuming here that Jeff is following blandly along unless he takes initiative himself. » >> This room has a door in the bottom leading to a room, and the one they came through. No others. * Jeff enters lemming mode, and uses any spare time when Shane isn't moving to build up force. «ooc: doors in RD, both lead to rooms. » «ooc: the pedestal 'follows' you. » * Shane goes D >> Doors in UL. U leads back, L is a wall. «ooc: ie, dead end but there's one door that leads to a wall. » «ooc: buttons? » «ooc: as always, one on every wall » * Shane hits the U button after a Sustain. «ooc: MP 0 after that. » «ooc: aye » >> The room shifts. Doors in UL, as before, and L is still blocked, but now U leads to the pit. * Shane looks through all of the rooms again, looking for an entrance to something else. >> This is now the only room you can get to. Apparently the rooms don't move as one. «ooc: The way you came in now leads to nothing. » .oO{ ... } «ooc: ...er, assume I didn't use 'you' in that pose. Not supposed to do second person. » «ooc: I haven't yet seen any targets to reach, right? » «ooc: No. » «ooc: You can look out the door to see if there's anything, but it doesn't lead directly to anything. » * Shane chows a Mystic Banana and meditates a little. <> «ooc: meditate fails, unless you want to do it for quite some time. You regain 30 MP from the carrot though » <> «ooc: Just want 2 more! » « is there grape and cherry flavors too? :D » «ooc: though if I may say, it was dumb to use a carrot. » «ooc: ...er, a mystic carrot. » «ooc: why? » «ooc: because they're better in a rush. » fine fine. «ooc: You don't *have* to be smart. :D » «ooc: that was ooc. » «ooc: How long to med for 2MP? » «ooc: I'll say 6 minutes arbitrarily, since I don't feel like rolling. That's not a constant, though. » «ooc: I do it. » >> Shane meditates for a while, as does Jeff, who's building up his power in case something goes awry. «ooc: BTW, Jeff, you have to concentrate *hard* to keep force up when not panicky. » «ooc: Okay, let's recap what's happened so far. » * Shane gets out ye olde paper. <> «ooc: Let's! The party originally gathered in Adlehyde to watch the yearly festival there, when people started to fall asleep! » «ooc: ... » * Jeff gets out his lens and uses it to regain some mystic reserves when he can. «ooc: will you recap what I've done? This is obviously a 'puzzle' ;) » «ooc: You shifted left four times and down once. Then you walked left twice, down once, and shifted up. » «ooc: When you shifted left the fourth time, you 'wrapped around' to the other side of the cube. » «ooc: similarly, going down once put you on the top of the other side. » «ooc: *snickers quietly*\ » «ooc: Sustain, left. » >> The cube shifts again. The left door now leads to nothing, but the top door opens onto a separate room not connected to the cube. «ooc: Heh. It's *really* simple so long as you don't try to get the hidden stuff. » « Cool puzzle Gayo. Just hard to envsion over IRC. ^^ » «ooc: Hey, I need the hidden stuff! ;d » «ooc: It's not that cool. I made it in 5 minutes. » * Shane walks into the new room. «ooc: Well, you can spend another 3 hours looking, Grue. :D » « *hands Shane the carrot-bandolier* » >> This room is dimly lit, and furnished with a single table, antique but obviously nothing like the ancient machinery around it. On the table, in a glass case atop a red cushion, is an old, leather-and-gold-bound tome. * Shane 's eyes swell again, and he cautiously approaches it, looking for wards or mechanical traps. >> The book is large, but has resisted the ravages of time well. It bears no markings, but there is a strip of rice-paper wrapped around it with the rune for 'danger' written on it in ink. «ooc: Nothing, but it's *very* magical. » «ooc: BRB » «ooc: Oh, and the stare roe wore off while you were dicking around. » * Shane gulps. * Shane picks up the book. <> All this for a book? That must be something important.. Mmm... It's never 'just' a book. * Shane looks around the room. >> The glass case lifts easily enough. «ooc: nothing » «ooc: this is it. » «ooc: do I have enough carrots to try every combination and make it back » ? «ooc: No. There are like 65000 combinations, or more. » «ooc: ;_; » «ooc: if you count the room you're in as part of the combination there are millions. » «ooc: ....wait, not quite. But a lot. » * Shane gingerly opens the book. «ooc: 24 MP currently, BTW » «ooc: You can't open it. It's held shut with a piece of rice-paper that says 'danger' in the ancient language of magicians. » Jeff, could you please summon your patron once more? «ooc: I'll say he can do it right away since he was charging. Also he's at full MP again. » «ooc: ...if he does. » * Jeff nods. * Jeff bows his head again. "Stare Roe.. please, I ask you to come again.. alert us to anything here we're missing.." >> Having gathered his strength in the shifting cube, Jeff is able to summon more easily this time, though Stare Roe still does not manifest. The light of truth shines on the book, revealing the image of an amorphous shifting shape inside a sphere, overlayed atop the book. «ooc: as in, you see both at once in the same place. » >> There is nothing else in the room -- the case, cushion and table are of no consequence. «ooc: what's the case look like? » * Jeff stares at the book/sphere « 'Danger, Spooky Stuff inside' » «ooc: am I SW'd? » «ooc: Gayo? » «ooc: Faintly. » «ooc: I'm faintly stillwaterd? » «ooc: you're...half SWed. Because he didn't manifest. The dots are sorta there, and you're less emotional than normal. » Intriguing. Is something sealed inside? * Shane examines with the Glasses. >> Both the book and the paper are extremely magical. Using the glasses, he can see that the shape inside the ephemeral sphere is a separate thing from the sphere itself. * Shane tries to touch the sphere. «ooc: BTW, Jeff, you wanna carrot yourself or something? » >> The sphere isn't really there...his hands pass through it. It seems to be a magical 'shadow' of the book. Disconcerting... <> «ooc: Maybe. » «ooc: ....eh, probably. » «ooc: Shane might get annoyed though. :D » «ooc: ? » Let us go. * Shane heads back to the room. <> «ooc: This is Shane. Of course he is. :D » <<..point.>> «ooc: ...right. :) » «ooc: Just for the record, it's quite large and somewhat heavy. » Is that wise? «ooc: Like a dictionary. » * Jeff follows Shane again >> Shane steps back into the shifting cube. I will not open this until I know what is inside. «ooc: I'll let you go back to the catwalk for free unless you want to look for hidden stuff, in which case you have to actually look. » <> «ooc: Gayo, we're 'above' the Catwalk, right? » «ooc: one 'down'. » «ooc: No. The cube moves around a lot, but always winds up on the same level of floor. » «ooc: down means south. » «ooc: ....oh. Yeah, technically you're above and to the left of it. » «ooc: looking at it from a 2d perspective. » «ooc: hrmmm... » «ooc: *sets up his puzzle grid again* Whee. » «ooc: so, 4 lefts is a complete circuit? » «ooc: seems so. » «ooc: er... » «ooc: you went left three times. So four WOULD be a complete circuit. » «ooc: Well, you shifted left three times and then again later. » «ooc: but the whole cube doesn't move together. » «ooc: and there are 4 rooms? » «ooc: You have no clue how many rooms there are, but it looks like more than that. » «ooc: You've only seen 4, however. » «ooc: in order, list the doors in each room. » * Jeff concentrates on gathering force while Shane ponders the cube's motion. «ooc: I have no idea. :D » «ooc: ... » «ooc: It's all rearranged now. » «ooc: Let's see... » * Shane heads to the original position. <> «ooc: the one you started out in was LRD. Then you went to one that was also LRD. » «ooc: Then you.....ah hell with it. » >> Using his notes, Shane manages to revert the cube to its original position by retracing his steps, and since I'm nice I won't charge him the MP. «ooc: gimme a sec. » «ooc: good. Now let's start again. ;) » «ooc: what doors are there right now. » <<*sob*>> « *pats Jeff* » <> «ooc: OK. You're back. LRD, D leads to the catwalk, LR lead to walls. » « Nah, this is Shane we're talking about. he'd get distracted by every shiny thing in existence. » «ooc: don't bother posing here. » «ooc: We'll just do it like this. » «ooc: there is no U? » «ooc: No. There never was a U in the original room. That's just a solid wall with a button on it. » <> «ooc: Actually you can't, but he doesn't know that. :D » > «ooc: This place is pretty weird. If you brought a proton accellerator here, it'd be hard to get it to work. » <<*wonders if the Guardians knew about this place before now*>> «ooc: Of course. » «ooc: They might not know what it's currently like, but they'd remember its existence. » «ooc: After all, it existed when they had physical bodied. » <> <> «ooc: Lalalalala. » <> «ooc: uh. » «ooc: I press Up. » * Shane Sustains up. Grid shifts U. «ooc: "grid" » «ooc: ? » «ooc: er, not the whole grid. » «ooc: this part of it. It's arranged as a grid. » Doors: LRD. D leads to wall, L and R lead to rooms. L room has a table in it. * Shane heads into the L-room. Move L: Doors at R, leading back. * Shane looks at the table. >> The table has a piece of paper on it with symbols written in calligraphy. «ooc: this paper isn't holding anything closed, it's just sitting there. » «ooc: it's magical, though. » «ooc: .....do you or do you not take the paper? » * Shane reads the paper. >> A koan is written on the paper. Thinking about it actually gives him a bit of a headache. Perhaps that's the magic. «ooc: Koan? » «ooc: They have them in Filgaia. » « ooh a koan » <<*grabs dictionary*>> «ooc: Shane's probably not familiar with them, though, so it'll just seem silly but hard to think about. » * Shane takes the paper. * Shane goes back to the room. >> Got Secret Sign! «ooc: same exits as I said before. » * Shane heads to the rightmost room. <> Doors: LD, both lead to rooms. «ooc: L being the previous room? ;) » «ooc: I head D. » <> Moved D. Doors: UDR. U goes back, DR lead out to nothing. «ooc: That... is a seeecret. » «ooc: and ten pieces of junk and a wand and crappy broken armor! » «ooc: and two full fuel cells! » « This is the way! » «ooc: were there buttons on the table-room? » «ooc: yeah. Every room has them. » « night guys. I'm down and out now. » «ooc: intriguing. » «ooc: cya Storen. » <> This is a fascinating place... «ooc: ? » * Shane presses down in the current room. Shift Down: Doors: UDL. D blocked, UL nothing. ...R, not L * Shane walks L. You're not kidding, Shane. I never imagined there'd be anything like this here. «ooc: er, to say nothing I mean they open into nothing. And There is no L, I made an error. It's UDR, D is blocked, UR open onto emptiness. » «ooc: so...yo can't go anywhere. » «ooc: crap. No L-to-Catwalk? » «ooc: No. Remember, you went into a different room. » «ooc: .....wait » «ooc: I'm all crying now. » «ooc: I might have done this wrong. » «ooc: eghriovb » «ooc: OK...you were in the room that you originally shifted up from that had at first connected to the catwalk, and it was ULR » <<..what I want to know is do we get EXP for all this? ;)>> «ooc: Then you went left, to a room that was LD. Did you go down from *there*, or stay there and shift? » «ooc: Yeah, you went down from there, THEN shifted down. » «ooc: You were one right of the catwalk *before* shifting down. » «ooc: well, one right of the room leading to the catwalk. » «ooc: wait. » «ooc: no. wasn't I in the room down from the one right of the catwalk room? » «ooc: OK... » Say you've got a 2x2 grid. (screw OOC for now) The catwalk room is the lower-left room. Then you shifted up one, so you're in the upper-right room. ...upper LEFT Then you walked right and down, putting you in the lower-right room. wait. Obivously, it's not a 2x2 grid, but that's the part you were just in. and there was a table-room left from the UL. Yeah. Right. shifted up. went to the lower right, shifted back down. And there's no exit to the catwalk room to the left? Recall that the UL room is the same room you were in at the catwalk...something *else* shifted to LL when you shifted up. Erm. No. The lower right was the lowest you could go. «ooc: ... » * Shane holds the dictionary gingerly. Shifting down moved you somewhere totally different. You can't go any lower than the room adjoining the catwalk was originally. ....I hate puzzles. :D «ooc: ;_; » OK. «ooc: Shane would go on, Grue says 'fuckit'. Grue is very confused and is unsure of the paradigm here. » You shifted UP. At that point you were one room *above* the catwalk. (above being north, below being south) <> Er, starting out adjoining the catwalk. «ooc: where was the book-room? » Then you went RIGHT. That put you one to the right and one above the catwalk room. «ooc: let's make this simple. » Top lefthand side of the entire sphere. Then you went DOWN. That put you directly to the right of the catwalk room. «ooc: Shane, how obviously understands more than me, heads to the room opposite the Book-room. » Then you shifted down again, which put you somewhere totally different. «ooc: How you get there makes a difference on which room it is. » The rooms rearrange. When you shift with a button, you're actually rearranging part of the grisd. ...grid .....can I just say you don't get the one other item here? :D <> <> «ooc: Hee hee. » «ooc: I got 2 by dumb luck! ;D » ......OK fuckit, I'll explain the damn grid to you. Listen up. «ooc: >:D » Do not talk, as it will take multiple lines to represent things. To be honest, I expected you'd have it figured out by now anyway. :P Now. It is a 4x4 grid. 16 rooms. ABCD EFGH IJKL MNOP OK? <> Now, assuming they're that way...A leads up to the book room and O leads down to the catwalk. HOWEVER! Say you're in O and you shift up (which you did). The grid then looks like this: A B G D E F K H I J O L M N C P «ooc: this is nothing like I thought the layout to be : ( » The 'displaced' room goes in the freed place. <> No. It's 2D. <> «ooc: I figured that much, but I had the layout all rong, and I couldn't figure where the goodies-rooms were. » Now. Let's say that you had the layout the way it is up there, after shifting up. You were in room O and went to J to get the sign, then went to L, then went to P. Then you shifted *down*, which made the grid like this: A B G P E F K D I J O H M N C L So you were in P in the top-righthand corner, pretty far from the exit. Now I'm not going to continue representing things with letters, so you're on your own. * Gayo returns the grid to its original state. ...I'm really tempted to give like 0 EXp for this session now. :D «ooc: forget it. ; ) » «ooc: Let's go home. » «ooc: OK. The item you missed was the Speed Glyph, an accessory that adds 80 to your initiative when spellcasting. » «ooc: I'll throw it in somewhere else to be nice. » «ooc: heh. » >> Shane goes back to the gate because his brain hurts. «ooc: You got most of the stuff. » «ooc: That's the only thing you missed. » «ooc: and the only thing remotly equip-worth by Shane! :D » *** Jeff (jesse@166.102.7.172) Quit (Ping timeout) «ooc: You might be able to equip the book.
