<GMStoren> When last we left our heroes, they had delt the shadowy head of the dark beast a fierce defeat, however it was all for naught, as the final siege of Northtown was already a reality. Rushing with the flames at their backs, they speed after the fleeing remains of Sophia's regiment to the gates of the city itself.

<GMStoren> As you approach the once grand capital of the vandole empire, you can see and hear the sounds of battle all around you. Minions of the shadow hop from rampart to rampart, slaying the last of the valiant defenders in glee. The chaos is strong here indeed, as the door and walls are quite destroyed, far beyond even the earthquake of Pandora you witnesses.

<GMStoren> You can see, high above, in the keep towers of castle Vandole itself, a dark shadow clashes with a lone swordsman, as the banners of the old regime blaze around him.
<GMStoren> « you can go :) »
* Roric leaps in between crumbled houses and flaming tents as if he were running an obstacle course, never allowing his momentum to slow and seeming more to tumble ahead than run.
<GMStoren> The gate to the castle has been knocked off it's hinges, the further you proceed into the city, refugee screams and trying to get away from the attackers...
* Rachel grimaces faintly but keeps moving, her blade held at ready in case they get any unwanted visitors..
<GMStoren> [Mother] Oh Goddess... save us...!

* Cody turns back to the sound of the woman's voice, "...Wha?"
<GMStoren> The woman runs through several downed soldiers, as you begin to make out the advancing form of the Republic army. Things here will be udner control soon, hopefully... but the battle above in the castle still rages.
<Rachel> Keep moving!
* Cody nods, and continues to run.
<GMStoren> A wounded soldier leans on a pillar in the foyer of the castle...
<GMStoren> [Vandole Guard] Flaresoul... nggh... I failed you...
* Cody shakes his head, wanting to help, but knowing he has no time.
* Tori heads for the gate, mute and horrified.
<GMStoren> He turns his head. "Mana.. Mana Knights! Save the Emperor! He and Sophia are up there fighting the monster..."
* Roric vaults up the nearest stairs he can find, without sparing so much as a nod for the injured guardsman.
* Rachel slows a little, nodding to the guard....she then shakes her head and hurries onwards..
* Cody hurries on.
<GMStoren> You find the steps wind and divide to the left and right. The right passage seems to be blocked by a collapsed wall, a storage room on fire. To the left, you see a small group of able bodied soldiers trying to douse another larger blaze.
* Roric shouts "Water!" to the other Mana Knights. It seems to be an order.
<GMStoren> Amidst their number, you spot a woman that looks a bit different from them, though hard to tell in the glare...

* Rachel skids to a stop and motions to the blocked corridor before turning to attempt to help the soldiers fighting the gaze..
<GMStoren> [Vandole Guardsman] Get more water, we can't let this get out of control or the whole place could come down!
<GMStoren> The woman you caught sight of quickly dashes off down the corridor before you get a better look.
<Roric> «ooc: We ran into the castle. It's on fire and monsters are killing people inside. At the top of the castle Julius is duelling with a monster. We're going up there to kill the monster. »
<Cody> «ooc: We've just been running, really. »

* Rachel looks to the group..
<GMStoren> Roric find they are going to need some of Undine's help here, it is too intense to cross as it stands.

* Chrys stops at the blaze.. "Undine..? A little help?"
* Cody calls out, "Undine! Can you hear me?"
<Cody> «ooc: Everoyne, let's scream Undine really loud! It's our word for the day! »
<Roric> «ooc: Heh. Does anyone besides RHi HAVE a water spell? »
<GMStoren> In a blue pinprick of light, the water diety appears, looking motified. "Oh my, this won't due... leave this to me, everyone!"
<Cody> «ooc: I have shining rain, but it's a status remover. Dunno if it's quite the same ;) »

<GMStoren> Undine starts infusing the soldiers buckets with seemingly limitless water, much to their confusion but they don't ask mroe questions and start to bite back the fire enough for you to have a clear path.

* Roric darts through the charred opening without stopping to talk.
* Cody follows Roric.
<GMStoren> Progressing further, you reach morethree  stairways leading up, likely to the first level of the towers and many other doors branching off from them, some of which show more signs of fighting that has taken place. The woman is off to the side, barking orders to a soldier apparently... before she ascends the rightmost tower stairway. 
* Tori pulls his jacket close and dashes through.

* Roric follows close behind the woman, presuming that she shares his destination.

<GMStoren> Roric manages to get close enough to see a very familair face. It is the lost sorceress, Rhiana. Her features seem somehow different, her bold singing outfit replaced by a red hued officer's top jacket...

<GMStoren> The chunks lands around the party in a shower of debris, one narrowly missing Rachel as Cody moves ehr out of harm's way. You find the way up here is blocked now, though...

* Cody pants a little, "You okay?"

* Rachel squeezes Cody's hand gently and peers at the wreckage with a grimace.
<Rachel> We're blocked out. 
<GMStoren> « she made it up as far as you know. »
<Cody> Darnit...
* Roric looks around, trying to determine how Rhiana might have gotten past the barrier.
<Roric> «ooc: Anything I can climb? »

<GMStoren> Roric notes the timing was so close, but there's no sign of her. There's a few small holes here and there, but none big enough to wiggle through. If you could loosen it more... there is other paths as well.

* Roric grumbles and attempts to pull the pile down enough to clamber over.
* Rachel steps forward and attempts to help Roric out, muscles straining.

* Roric pants heavily, his face drenched with sweat from the exertion.
<Roric> «ooc: Er, the exertion of the running and fighting mostly, not this. »
* Cody also attempts to help, even though his slight frame isn't really built for heavy rock lifting. ^^:
<GMStoren> It's very tedious work, but you whittle away an opening large enough for you to slip through.
<Niki> «ooc: I suppose it would help if Niki joined in, but would that be IC? »
<Roric> «ooc: Niki isn't very helpful by nature. »
<Sophia> «ooc: Niki would be in the corner discovering new holes in her body »

* Tori does his best to shift some of the rubble, but is in more or less the same boat as Cody.
* Rachel tosses aside a big chunk of wreckage aside and grins a little at the small triumph.

* Roric squeezes through the hole and hits the ground running.
<GMStoren> There's a few more shudders, but no more dangerous slides come. It seems safe for the moment. Through the hole you can hear the sounds of yelling.
* Rachel attempts to follow through the hole, having some trouble but making it, quickly skittering after Ror.
* Cody squeezes through the hole, and follows Roric as best he can.

* Tori pushes his way through and heads after the others.
<GMStoren> Stumbling over the debris, you come upon a landing. Here it seems to be open air around the base of three of the tallest towers.
<Rachel> <<OMG! RACHEL! You so fat, when you sit around the chocobo, you really sit around the chocobo! ;P>>

<GMStoren> From your vantage point, you can see the ring of ramparts above you is the source of the fierce explosions previously, as two ominous shadows are floating into position to join the one in combat already. Without a doubt, one on the left is the demonic head you saw before...
<Niki> «ooc: No, it's some freaky sex game Rachel and Joch(the chocobo, not the dead lizard.) play. »
<Roric> «ooc: Wow, Doom really has the Dekar thing down. »
<Cody> «ooc: *claps* Can I keep him? :D »
* Roric goes after the big head.

<Niki> «ooc: I'm not sure weather to be insulted or complimented. »

* Cody continues to follow the leader.
<Roric> Split up! We must defeat all three simultaneously!
<Cody> Who goes where?
<GMStoren> Before you dash completely to the central tower, near the right spread, the subject of your chase is staring up along with you at the situation. By the shape of the woman's ample figure in the military garb, it is only more proof who she is.
* Roric lets his feet do the talking, already making a beeline for the cyclopean fiend.

<GMStoren> Above, on the left tower, another swordswoman comes to join the battle, her sword flashing red and blazing with fury. The man in the central platform is none other than Julius himself. He's exchanging in some sort of duels with minions that the heretofore unseen third portion is sending his way.
<GMStoren> « they all have eyes :) »
* Rhiana crosses her arms, looking up
<GMStoren> « each one is a face. »
<Roric> «ooc: But the one eye. »
<GMStoren> « the central portion ahs a gem above it's two eyes. :) »
<GMStoren> « alright guys, talk to Rhia and decide quicklike ;) »
<Roric> «ooc: I'm going after the one we fought before. »
<Niki> «ooc: Umm...Just put Niki Wherever. »
<Cody> «ooc: I'm gonna follow Rachel. :) »
* Rhiana pulls a sword from her belt.

<GMStoren> « Sophia is handling Xa (the one you saw), Julius Far in center, Bie on right is most likely Rhiana's target. »
* Roric rips Xa and converts him to a .wav!

* Rhiana looks down at the group, "What makes you think that?"
<Cody> «ooc: Actually, sending Rachel to one head, Tori to another, and me to a third would split up healing evenly. :) »

<Roric> «ooc: ....she's with us though. »

* Rhiana looks back up, looking as if she had something to comment to that, but decides to save it, "Do what you want."

<GMStoren> Niki, Rahne and Chrys pant a moment, catching up and looking at the scene above with a mix of reactions...

<GMStoren> As if on cue, when the heroes have assembled, the three dark heads speak their challenge. The horned ancient one in the center bellows out into your minds. "Ah, now all the players are assembled... the final act can begin. The chaos will be very pleased..."
* Rhiana twirls the sword semi-expertly, and prepares for the battle.
* Roric draws the Mana Boomerang from his belt, and it glints brightly in the light of the floames below -- a brief beacon in the endless darkness.

<GMStoren> The ramparts you stand upon seem to twist and distort in that same illusionary effect earlier, as the air starts to become thick and murky, distorting your sight. There's almost a physical wall between you all now, barely allowing you view of the others. below your feet is now what appears to be the tiles of a chessboard...
* Cody scowls, "Cute."
<Rachel> Oh wonderful.
<GMStoren> [Xa] Time to burn you in the hellfires! [Bie] I'm going to finish what i started witch.
<Chrys> Nothing better than a nice steaming cup of overripe symbolism and taunting to start the day.
