Chapter 1a - Encounter with Fate
Session Start: Fri Sep 01 22:05:00 2000- Outskirts of Elinee's Castle | Mana Holy Day, Daytime -
<GMStoren> A thick air hangs over the wilderness forests near Kippo village, making the environment somewhat oppressive on this muggy summer day. In a clearing stands a single woman, obviously a warrior by the sword she carries, gazing past the forest's edge towards the ruins of an old castle.
<GMStoren> You recall the mayor hiring you to investigate the random attacks on travelers and herb-gatherers this time of year. The former stronghold of the witch Elinee was the best clue you had, even though she had long passed away and the place fell into disuse.
<GMStoren> The path winds around some gnarled trees, but all ultimately lead to the castle gates. You see no sign of your partner though, figuring she went on ahead.
* Rachel glances about and heads for the castle, squaring her shoulders and promising herself she can do this silently. ^^;
<GMStoren> As you approach the old structure, you hear some braches rustling behind you.
* Rachel freezes and draws her sword before turning to point her sword in the direction of the rustling! "Hello? Who's there?"
<GMStoren> Rachel realizes her sword is pointing to a very tall tree at the moment.
* Rachel sweatdrops and ehehehs. "Well. That's great. I sure did scare that big old tree. Ah, cripes."
* Rachel sighs and sheathes her sword, wondering what it is about this place that spooks her. ^^;
<GMStoren> You hear another rustle... it's above you.
* Rachel blinks and slowly looks up. ^^;
<GMStoren> Rachel doesn't see anything...but there's another rustle as something big bonks her on the head! O_o
* Rachel grimaces and staggers back a few steps, rubbing her sore head. "Ow. Fuck. What the...?"
<Cody> (Above) Ah..! My book!
* Rachel blinks at the book in front of her and sweatdrops.
<Rachel> . o O (You know, this really isn't going well for a job.)
<GMStoren> There's some more rustling as someone climbs down the tree.
* Rachel grabs the book and steps back slowly. "Who're you?"
<Cody> Huh...? Who...wh-whoa! O_o
* Cody tumbles a bit out of the tree, landing sprawled on the ground, as his satchel bursts open and a few oddly colored herbs spill out.
<GMStoren> The boy sprawled at your feet currently sure doesn't have the subtlety of a brigand... ^^
* Rachel raises an eyebrow, looking somewhat boyish if not for something soft about her face, her brown hair hanging raggedly...she sweatdrops again, bending down to collect one of the herbs. "You alright?"
* Cody looks up from his face-first position on the ground towards Rachel, blinking his eyes in confusion a bit, then slowly looking embarrassed. "I... Er...^^; Um... I'm sorry...I didn't see you coming Miss...Er...Uh... ^^"
* Rachel chuckles softly and balances everything in one arm, offering her hand to the boy to help him up. "Rachel. And you are?"
* Cody takes it. "Sorry about clobbering you with my book. ^^; The name's Cody, Miss."
* Rachel gently tugs Cody to his feet with ease, apparently rather strong. She hands him his things. "Ah, it's alright, I have a rather thick head. Do you normally hang out in treetops, Cody?"
<Cody> Only when I don't want anyone to find me...Maybe I should find someplace else to hide out. ^^;
<GMStoren> As you introduce yourselves, you think you hear something creak in the background.
* Cody takes his things. "Thank yo...Is someone else here?"
* Rachel furrows her brow and puts her hand on the hilt of her sword, turning slightly to look. "It might be my partner..."
<Cody> Partner? *blinks
* Why ARE you here...If I can ask...The place is abandoned....
<GMStoren> Rachel sees nothing. It's probably the old gates creaking on the hinges.
* Rachel stays alert, eyes flashing with attentiveness. "I've been hired by the mayor to find out about the attacks going on lately...I have a partner named Keylia..."
<Cody> You mean...Mayor Day hired you? That's funny....I didn't know anything was wrong here!
* Cody frowns a bit. "Then again...no one tells me much of anything anymore..."
<Rachel> Ah...uhm...well... ^^;
<GMStoren> You hear another noise, but it doesn't sound quite like a gate this time.
* Cody blinks, and looks up. "What is that...?"
* Rachel narrows her eyes and turns fully now, drawing her sword and leveling it at the gate.
<GMStoren> Suddenly, a dart flies through the air and plants itself firmly in the tree next to you!
<Rachel> !
<Cody> Gah-! O_o
* Rachel backs up a little into Cody, protecting him...
<GMStoren> Rachel stays on guard, but nothing else seems to come. The dart has a scrap of paper attached to it.
* Cody looks around quickly then notices the paper. "Miss... a note... ^^'
* Rachel wanders forward to collect the paper, looking at it.
<GMStoren> "This is the property of the Scorpion Army! Trespassers will have the honor and pleasure to be exquisitely tortured by moi." -The Boss
<Rachel> "The Boss"? Wonderful...how...tacky ^^;
<GMStoren> "PS - Sexy bo... er new recruits, always welcomed."
* Rachel frowns. "Well, that won't stop me...screw it, I have a job to do."
<Cody> Sexy boy...? O_o
<Cody> They must have mistook you for a guy...er...no. They mean me...Oh. O_o
* Cody blushes. ^^;
<Rachel> You, not me. ^^;
<Cody> Um...Well... ^^; Seeing as I would only get in your way...
<GMStoren> Keylia still hasn't showed up... maybe she's already inside?
* Rachel blinks and turns, eyeing Cody. "Ah, yeah, right...I should go too..."
<Cody> Good luck...Rachel was it? ^^ It was nice meeting you.
* Rachel nods slightly. "A pleasure, Cody. Be safe getting home...don't fall outta anymore trees..."
* Cody chuckles a bit, and rubs what appears to be a slightly sore elbow. "Yeah...you be careful too. This place is really old...no one's been inside for a long time...Well...except those army people, it seems."
* Rachel draws her sword and turns, heading into the castle. "I'll be careful...don't worry 'bout me...."
* Cody takes a couple of steps back, apparently watching Rachel until she's out of sight.
<GMStoren> Rachel brandishes her sword, and heads to the gates of the castle. But before you're out of Cody's sight, you feel the ground give way beneath your feet! A pitfall!
* Rachel yelps. O_o
<Cody> Hey! O_o
* Cody quickly rushes forward, and grabs onto Rachel's arm before she falls in completely. "Grab on!"
* Rachel scrabbles for Cody's arm!!
<Rachel> Urrgh!
* Cody struggles to pull her up. "Ugh...Just...Just...a little more..."
* Cody's feet are sliding TOWARDS the pitfall! ;_;
<GMStoren> Cody manages to grab Rachel, but his small frame can't support the weight of her body and equipment... he slowly loses ground, and falls in as well. o_o
<Rachel> EErrrkkk!!!! O_o
<Cody> Aghhh! O_o
<GMStoren> You both fall a short way and smack into what seems like a stone floor, seeing stars.- Elinee's Castle, Dungeon | Mana Holy Day, Daytime -
* Cody smacks hard into the floor, in a crumpled up state...groaning a little.
* Rachel grimaces hard, rubbing her back. "Ow, damnit..."
<Cody> You...you okay...?
* Rachel wrinkles her nose and glances around. "Yeah...you?"
<Cody> I think so...Just as soon as the place stops spinning a little...
<GMStoren> When you get you're bearings, you find you plopped right into a very plain subterranean room. What looks like a skeleton is hanging on a wall in chains. ^^
* Cody sits up, rubbing his side. "I'm sorry I couldn't pull you up. Now we're both in a mess... :/"
<Rachel> It's alright...it isn't your fault...hmmm...someone else had an unfortunate taste in fashion...
* Rachel nods to the skeleton.
* Cody turns his head to the side and gulps a little when he sees the cadaver. "Y...Yeah, I guess so..."
<GMStoren> There's three exits you can see in the dim flickering torchlight.
* Rachel looks west and east. "I say we go the leftmost door..."
<Cody> . o O ( Great...Just great, Cody. You're such a twit.. :/ You come out here even though they told you not to any what happens? You're stuck in a dungeon! :/ )
* Cody stands up. "Yeah...Any direction is fine. ^^; We just got to find a way out."
<GMStoren> >> Cody timidly joins the party! :D
* Rachel nods and heads to the leftmost exit.
<GMStoren> Heading left, you find another plain room, with what seems like a big cauldron of some sort. It's all rusty... maybe Elinee's old stew pots? ^^
* Cody follows Rachel quietly. "You...um...Do this kind of thing often?"
<GMStoren> Cody recalls the rumor about her cooking children, etc. :D
<Cody> No...Elinee was a herbalist...She only was a witch for a little while...When Thanatos tried to take over Pandora....
<Cody> She probably boiled a lot of herbs in these...
* Rachel blinks and looks around and eyes the cauldron. "Mmm? Yeah...this is my job...and whether or not she was a witch or herbalist...I gotta do my job..."
* Rachel looks a bit distracted, glancing around all over the place.
<Cody> ...Although there were rumors about her boiling cats and frying children. -_-;
<GMStoren> Rachel finds another path north. The brittle wood looks like it was kicked in.
<Rachel> Pftt, that's nothing...I knew one old woman who used to lick her house's left wall every morning for two hours because she said it gave her magical powers. ^_-
<Cody> O_o Seriously?
<Cody> And...I assume she's gotten help now...right? ^^;
<Rachel> Ah, no idea... I left. ^^; Haven't seen her since... hmm...let's go this way...
* Rachel goes north. ^^
<Cody> (w) Doesn't really matter...she's not as freakish as me anyway...
* Cody follows.
<Cody> See anything yet?
<GMStoren> Picking your way through the shattered door, you find a stairway up, with another note tacked onto it.
* Cody sees the note and grabs it. ^^;
* Rachel blinks. "A note...you wanna read it this time?"
<Cody> Sure... ^^ I guess.
* Cody unfurls the note, and begins to read...
<GMStoren> "Booty Room Ahead. Remember, No stealing! ...Except from everyone else!"
<Cody> ...The treasure room is ahead. O_o
<Rachel> Hmm...let's go then. ^^;
* Cody turns towards Rachel. "But wait...It's probably heavily guarded. Do you think it's smart to just rush in?"
* Rachel eyes Cody. "What other choice do we have? Turn around and go another way, risking a fight anyways?"
<Cody> ...
* Cody closes his eyes, and sighs. "Yeah...you're right. Let's go."
<GMStoren> You hear a woman's voice from upstairs.
<GMStoren> [Voice] "Ah, all the accessories I could ever want!"
<Rachel> ...! Ah ha!
<Cody> Shhh! O_o
* Rachel rushes up the stairway. ^_^
* Cody follows. "Don't we have some sort of plan? ;_;"
<Rachel> Nope! S'what makes it fun!
<GMStoren> Rachel rushes upstairs in a fit of heroic bravado! :D
* Cody follows in a fit of timid, inexperienced stupidity! Yay!- Elinee's Castle, Main Floor | Mana Holy Day, Daytime -
<GMStoren> As soon as you reach the edge of the stairs, you see a tall blonde woman in a red leotard, thigh high boots, and a flowing cape that bears a Red Scorpion on the back. She's shifting through one of the various piles of trinkets scattered everywhere!
<Cody> Is it legal to wear an outfit like that. O_o
<Rachel> Barely. ^_-
<GMStoren> [Boss] Ah, and this gem would go great with... hey!
* Cody wideyes, and waves timidly. "^^ Hi."
<Rachel> Uhhh, sorry to interrupt. ^_-
<GMStoren> The woman turns around, a red party mask covering her eyes as she looks you both over in a seductive way...
<Cody> ...Who...Who are you?
<Rachel> Who're you?
<GMStoren> [Boss] Oh, it's you, sexy thing. Come to join our army have you? Ugh, is that tramp still with you?
* Rachel growls and bristles.
<GMStoren> The woman snaps her fingers and two henchmen appear out of the side doors, blocking escape.
<Cody> Join your army? O_o N...no! I'm just a villager from Kippo!
* Rachel draws her sword and rushes the woman!
<Cody> Rachel! Wait!
<GMStoren> [Boss] I'm the new leader of the Scorpion Army! He can call me mommy, but you can call me Reisha! :P
<GMStoren> Reisha dodges Rachel, kicking up some necklaces everywhere.
* Cody pulls Rachel back a little. "Don't rush at her blindly...we can stop her if we work together...!"
<Rachel> ...mmmhhhh...right, right...
<Reisha> Hey, temper temper! Why not play with my two right hand men first. ^_-
<Cody> We'd rather not, thanks.
<Rachel> Why don't you go play in traffic, you fashion slut?
<Reisha> Hey, I'm the sexiest thing on this planet... be honored I'll kick your butt!
* Rachel narrows her eyes and crouches, ready to attack!
* Cody rummages through his pack, and pulls out what appears to be an oaken staff. " ^^; Um..."
<Cody> . o O ( How did I get into this mess...? -_-; )<GMStoren> >> Scorpion Reisha appears! Scorpion Flunky A & B appear!
<GMStoren> >> Begin Combat!<Reisha> Ohoho.. don't tell me you're the best they could afford?
* Rachel twirls the sword and readies herself for her first strike. "Shut up and die."
<GMStoren> >> Reisha's action! Reisha takes a defensive stance! Reisha powers a spell!
<Reisha> Come on Djinn.. show them some thunder!
<Cody> A mage...?
<GMStoren> Just as the form of the elemental appears, a huge chunk of the roof falls on Reisha's head,! x_X
<Rachel> O_o
<Cody> What? O_o
<Reisha> Ow.. damnit!
<Rachel> Hah! ^_^
<GMStoren> From a hole in the rooftop comes a green haired elf woman, wielding a sword and a wicked scythe type weapon...
<GMStoren> [Elf] I leave you alone for one minute and you're already in trouble! ^_^
<Rachel> Ahhh...you scamp, 'bout time you showed up!
<Cody> This is your partner? O_o
<Rachel> Yep!
<GMStoren> >> Mercenary Knight Keylia joins the fight!
* Cody smiles widely for the first time since you've met him. "Great!"
<Keylia> Hey, who's the cute boy Rachel? Am I interrupting something? ^_^
* Rachel glances at Cody in amusement and then flushes faintly. "Ah, no. His name is Cody. He fell on me."
<Cody> N...no! I...er...It wasn't like that! You see..^^; My book fell on her...then she fell into a trap...uh...nevermind.
<Reisha> Rrggh.. get em! I wanna torture them personally all night!
* Rachel smiles a little at Cody soothingly before glaring at Reisha!
* Keylia smiles and advances to Reisha. "I'll keep bimbo queen here occupied." ^_^
<Cody> Be careful ma'am ^^;
<Rachel> You go, Key!
<GMStoren> >> Cody's action!
* Cody gathers up his strength, and shifts to a more offensive position. He twirls the staff, then swings it out in an arc, and catches Flunky A right in the stomach! ^^
<GMStoren> >> Cody rushes into an attack position, swiping at Flunky A! (Go boy. :D)
<GMStoren> >> 9 damage! Cody's charge up 1!
<Cody> Got you..! ^^;
<GMStoren> [Flunky A] Hey, don't you know who you're dealing with!
<Cody> ^^; You're right. I don't...What's your name again?
<GMStoren> >> Flunky B's action!
<GMStoren> [Flunky A] Well, since we're kicking your ass... I'm David! Watch my graceful swordplay, Boss! ;)
<Reisha> Go get em hun. ^_^
<GMStoren> [Flunky B] I'm Jeyer. It doesn't matter anyway.
<GMStoren> >> Jeyer throws some ninja stars at Rachel!
* Rachel tries to dodge!!
<Cody> Rachel...!
<GMStoren> >> Rachel takes 6 damage!
* Cody wideyes. "You all right?"
<GMStoren> >> Rachel's action!
* Rachel grins wolfishly. "Mmhmm....my turn."
* Rachel rushes at David and slashes at him hard, doubling over again with another deadly slash!
<GMStoren> >> Rachel shifts into an offensive stance! Rachel attacks David! :D
<GMStoren> >> 17 damage! Rachel's Charge up 1!
<Rachel> Heheheh..
<David> Ow... she's good boss!
<Reisha> Not better than me!
<GMStoren> >> Keylia's action!
* Rachel smirks and twirls her sword, crouching for another attack...!
<Keylia> Oh really? You know I really hate stuck up women... and your fashion sense sucks, did I mention that? ^_^
<Cody> I still think it must be illegal to have that little covering your behind... O_o
* Cody shudders. "It's not a pretty behind either. -_-;"
<GMStoren> >> Keylia goes into Offensive! Keylia launches the sickle Reaver at Reisha!
<GMStoren> >> 162 damage! Keylia's Charge up 1!
* Cody watches Keylia and suddenly feels very small and insignificant. O_o
<Boss Reisha> Agh... you whore... this is my best cape! o_O
<GMStoren> >> Reisha's action! Reisha powers a spell!
<Reisha> Shock some sense into her... Thunderbolt!
<Cody> She's casting magic again...!
* Cody hopes that the wall comes down on her again. ^^;
<GMStoren> >> Djinn is summoned, as a bolt of lightning crashes into Keylia!
<GMStoren> >> 10 damage!
<Keylia> *brushes off a small burn
* Sheesh. You need to stop worrying about jewelry and practice. Pathetic. ^_^
<GMStoren> >> Cody's action! (Stance is currently Offense)
* Cody twirls his staff again, and eyes David, this time twirling the staff to knock him twice in the jaw! ^^;
<GMStoren> >> Cody attacks David! 11 damage! Charge up 1! Cody is at level 1! :)
<Cody> T...Take that!
<GMStoren> >> David's action!
<GMStoren> >> David goes into an offensive stance! David attacks Cody!
<Cody> Oh shoot-!
<Rachel> Watch out!
* Cody tries to protect himself! ^^;
<GMStoren> [David] Now I got you!
<GMStoren> >> Cody gets WHACKED! x_X
<GMStoren> >> 22 damage! David's Charge up 1!
<Cody> Aagh!
* Cody flies back a little, landing on his behind with a fairly large gash in his side.
<Rachel> ...
<Cody> D...Don't worry about me! Concentrate on them!
* Cody pants a little ^^;
<Jeyer> What amateurs.
* Rachel shakes her head and growls, readying her sword..
<GMStoren> >> Jeyer's action! Jeyer powers a spell!
<Jeyer> Raijin!
<GMStoren> >> Jeyer dashes at Rachel and bashes her with ninja speed and an electrical fist!
<Rachel> Gyaaack!
<Cody> O_o No! Stop!
<GMStoren> >> 15 damage!
* Rachel grunts and stumbles back, bouncing back amazingly quick!
<GMStoren> >> Rachel's action! (Stance is Offensive)
* Rachel rushes at David again and slashes at him hard!!
<GMStoren> >> Rachel attacks David!
<GMStoren> >> David gets WHACKED! 23 damage! Rachel's Charge up 1! Gauge at level 1!
<Rachel> Hah! Take that!
* Rachel grins and drops back into position!
* Cody smiles a bit, and finally stands up (albeit painfully) "Nice!"
<Cody> You're really good... ^^;
<Rachel> Ah...uhm...thanks... ^^;
* Cody blushes a little ^^
<David> Hey, noone bests me like that!
<GMStoren> >> David's action! David attacks Rachel!
<Rachel> !
* Rachel tries to drop back to defend herself!
<Cody> Rachel!
<GMStoren> >> Rachel also receives a harsh blow! 18 damage! David's Charge up 1! Gauge at level 1!
* Rachel grunts louder this time and wipes some blood from the corner of her mouth...
<Keylia> Hey Rachel, you're not looking too hot...
* Cody wideyes at Rachel's injuries, and his face darkens a little.
<Rachel> Gee, thanks, I love you too, Key.. ^^;
<GMStoren> >> Keylia's action!
<Reisha> Sure she is... she pales in comparison! :o
<Rachel> God, shut up you trashy slut!
<Cody> . o O ( She's the stronger one...I...I don't want to...but we got to get out...It's okay if she thinks I'm a freak...They all think that eventually anyway... )
<Keylia> What a bag of hot air.. say goodnight!
<GMStoren> >> Keylia attacks Reisha with Damascus!
<GMStoren> >> Reisha staggers back.. 134 damage! Keylia's Charge up 1! Gauge at level 1!
<Cody> Please just give up! No one has to get hurt!
<Reisha> What the hell, I can't be defeated here! And by such a bit... X_X
<GMStoren> >> Reisha sees the Reaper!
<David> No, Reisha! O_O
<Jeyer> Shut up and get them. Or we'll never hear the end of this.
<GMStoren> >> Cody's action!
* Rachel readies her sword again, looking a little pulpy. ^^;
* Cody shakes his head, and steps back into a defensive position. "Rachel...this might sound funny...but hold still...okay?"
* Rachel blinks slowly. "Huh?"
<GMStoren> >> Cody drops back to a defensive position. Cody powers a spell!
<Cody> Here we go...!
<Cody> Terra et viridis, tango clementiae, vitae et animae, spire et lacrimo, precior me amen...
* Cody gently pushes his hands forward while breathing out. Two softly glowing green ribbons slide out along the ground to Rachel. The ribbons gently curl around Rachel's body, and seem to erase any damage as they pass over.
<GMStoren> >> Cody invokes a mysterious force... he casts Vitae Soul! Rachel is healed for 35!
* Rachel blinks a little more and feels better. "Ehm..?"
* Keylia turns to Rachel, and sees the glow...
<Keylia> What the hell was that, kid?
* Rachel blinks again but accepts it and nods to Cody thankfully, not questioning. :)
* Cody looks down. "I...I don't know..."
<Cody> I...I can just...Can we talk about this later? ^^;
* Keylia stares at Cody a moment. It unsettles you a little... but then she turns back. "Sorry, just was surprised a little... thanks."
* Cody shrinks back at the stare, blinking. "Y...Yeah. No problem..."
<GMStoren> >> Jeyer's action! Jeyer attacks!
* Rachel murmurs. "Thanks, Cody..."
<Jeyer> So he's a priest. Well then the target's obvious.
* Cody blinks. "Umm... ^^; No it's not...See! Look! A statue! Go attack that!" ^^;
<GMStoren> >> Jeyer launches a volley of thrown shurikens at Cody!
<GMStoren> >> Jeyer's attack missed!
* Rachel tries to leap in front of. Cody ;_;
* Rachel makes an idiot of herself!
* Cody attempts to dodge! "It's okay! Erhm... ^^;"
* Cody helps Rachel up. ^^;
<GMStoren> Rachel catches one the darts as they glance off her plate harmlessly.
<Cody> You really shouldn't be attacking me... ^^; I'm not a priest...see...Look! Over there..! A three-headed monkey!
* Rachel blinks and smiles a little up at Cody. ^^;
<GMStoren> >> Rachel's action! (Gauge at level 1!)
* Rachel growls viciously and lunges at Jeyer, slashing at him madly, her blade weaving and burning a path into his skin! Vengeance!
<GMStoren> >> Rachel executes her Vengeance on Jeyer! :o
<GMStoren> >> 49 damage!
<Jeyer> Holy hell... where did that come from... o_o
<Rachel> Rrr...
<GMStoren> >> Jeyer sees the Reaper!
<Cody> We're almost there...
<David> Now you'll feel my special technique!
<Rachel> Oh god, the corniness never ends!
<GMStoren> >> David's action! David uses a charge attack!
<Cody> Uh oh...
<David> My flaming sword... AmeShi!
* Cody points out feebly again that David's missing the three-headed monkey dance.
<GMStoren> >> David executes AmeShi on Rachel! 36 damage!
* Rachel grunts and stumbles back O_o
<Cody> Rachel!
<Rachel> Ungh. ^^;
<David> She's still standing? o_o
* Cody sighs and realizes his sounding like a broken record.
<GMStoren> >> Keylia is speedy! Can act twice!
<Keylia> *yawn
* I think I'll go look through these treasures... you finish him off...
* Rachel rubs her arm where it got hurt. "What...?"
<GMStoren> >> Keylia declines action and grabs Reisha and Jeyer by the collars. ^^
<Cody> Um..O...kay?
* Cody blinks and shrugs to Rachel. ^^;
<GMStoren> >> Cody's action!
* Cody twirls his staff quickly, and shifts into an offensive position. He speaks with a soft voice. "You know...I really don't want to hurt you...Can't we just solve this peacefully? ^^;"
<GMStoren> >> Cody takes an Offensive stance!
<Cody> ...Please? ^^;
<David> The scorpion army never admits defeat! ^^
<David> Plus you got the Boss!
<Cody> ...*Sigh* Okay then...
* Cody skillfully twirls his staff around him, allowing it to build up frightful momentum as he leaps into the air and brings the bludgeoning weapon down upon David's head with a hearty "Thwack!", delivering a crushing blow!! *
<GMStoren> >> Cody executes Bonkle on David! (I feel so good.)
<GMStoren> >> David is thwapped in the head by the wooden cane for 32 damage!
* Cody then finishes his move by clumsily landing on his feet. ^^;
<David> Aggh... Reisha... x_X
