Personality:
Rahne blames alot of things on her ears and tail. Because they typically cause most townsfolk to pay attention to her, Rahne tries to stay out of the public eye as much as possible. Her clothing has to be specially made with tail-holes for her to wear them. Rahne also hates recieving complements, she doesn't like people calling her cute or pretty, especially if she recieves such complements while she's wagging her tail, or expressing some other emotion with it. Rahne actually tries very hard to not move her tail at all, though this has proven a near impossible feat. Her attempts to stop it from moving (including methods with rope, tape and glue) have almost always ended up with her crying from the pain of the method involved, or crying because of the discomfort and frustration of not being able to move it when she's -needed- to wag it.
When Rahne isn't suffering the woes and indignities of her tail inflicts upon her, she's a professional young woman with a caring nature. She's very modest, and typically blushes profusely if she wears anything more revealing than her usual dress; and she even feels guilty about the slit up the right side of it. Boys around her age cause her uneasiness, especially if they're loud or boisterous. Rahne is, by nature, a loner. Although she can and will deal with people if she has to, she prefers not to if it at all can be helped.
Motivations/Goals:
Rahne has recently taken to exploring the countryside near the Water Palace, most notably Undine's Caves, and most of the nooks and crannies of the mountains surrounding the Palace. Though she has enjoyed her time abroad, the few trips to Pandora, Cannon rides, and whatnot, she truely does long for the lofty peaks of her mountain home.
Background:
Rahne was born sixteen years ago in the remote mountain village of Mandala, situated among the peaks of the northern Upperland. A quiet village seldom impacted by the events of the outside world, Rahne's birth set all of the village's eyes upon her. Despite her obviously human lineage, Rahne was born with some slightly noticable physical abnormalities. Far from the hideous abberations of the human form created during the days of the Mana War, Rahne looks very much human, except for her foxlike ears and tail. Which was the source of all the commotion.
Being different from everyone else in town has effectively deprived Rahne of any sort of normal childhood. Though her parents tried to make her life as typical as any other, Rahne constantly found herself at the center of attention, and under the scrutiny of many intellectuals from the Mandala Temple, who queried and probed in hopes of unearthing some great secret since she was -obviously- favored by the Goddess.
As a young girl, many of the other village children fought over her friendship, taking pride in being able to proclaim the tailed girl their friend, as though she were some sort of trophy. It was about this time that Rahne started to resent being different, starting to blame her tail and ears for the lack of normalacy in her life.
Rahne became somewhat introverted, not wanting to be subjected to questions she didn't understand, and not wanting to be friends with people who only wanted to be friends with her because of her foxlike attributes. Her parents, distressed at how reclusive their daughter had become, took her to the legendary Sage Joch. Asking to be left alone with the girl, Joch and her had a talk, the details of which only he and her know to this day. However, after that day, Joch took her on as a pupil, which the antisocial Rahne gladly approved of.
The years would pass, and Rahne's knowledge would flourish under Joch's teaching. She found she actually had a love of history, particularily that which pertained to the Mana War. She's watched the Mandala Veedios countless times, and has most of them memorized. Yet, despite her enlightening education, Rahne's antisocial nature changed little with the passing of time. Though her childhood companions had grown with her, and their desires for friendship became more true, Rahne still chose the solace of her reclusion, and the comfort of her studies.
On her fifteenth birthday, Joch proposed to her that she study abroad, that he thought Mandala's small-town feel was causing her to miss out on some wonderful things. So, with her parent's permission Joch arranged for her to stay at the Water Palace, and continue studying under the Temple's renowned keeper, Luca. Under Luca's tutelage, Rahne did become less antisocial, but she still possessed a somewhat suspicious attitude towards the motives of strangers towards her. Also while being instructed at the Water Palace, Rahne took up studying the Spear. Luca had thought this an ideal way to give the stressed girl more confidence, and perhaps to take her mind off of more mundane social issues. And to some extent, it has worked.
