==Lude BEGIN! Session 32.1: Name Pending== GMVytor> The open ocean stretches endlessly before Emiria. Despite the lack of landmarks, Emiria knows that as long as she heads east, she'll reach the mainland again. GMVytor> Ryllan has excused himself to use the head, so Emiria finds herself alone on the bridge for the first time since the ship first set sail, leaving her thoughts to echo as they will among the thrums and vibrations of the ancient vessel. * Emiria leans back in her captain's chair, idly swinging her feet, and yawns. .oO( I need a crew. ) * Vytor knocks on the door to the bridge "Come in!" * Vytor opens the door and enters, "Hey." * Emiria bends down to pull a small lever on her chair, shifting it to a more vertical position that allows her to sit straight. She waves. "Hi. What's cooking?" Taking a breather from the reactor. Angie was nice enough to take over for a bit. * Emiria smiles approvingly. "Good! She's really dependable. How are things down there?" Well, the system is designed to be worked by a crew of at least 5, preferably who know what the hell they're doing. But so far we haven't irradiated ourselves into little smoking globs, so I'd say that counts as "OK". * Emiria grins. Safety regulations are for weenies anyway. Gosh, I want to go around and start fixing this beauty up properly. * Vytor waggles his finger dissaprovingly, "Safety regulations are what keep us alive. Shop safety 101." Yeah, yeah. :P Got a sec? I wanted to ask you something. * Emiria spreads her arms widely, indicating the empty bridge. "I'm bored like a sack of bricks. Want to talk more about your quicksilver idea or what?" ^^ * Vytor starts to light up as Emiria mentions the qucisilver project, but reigns himself in as he reaslizes he's going off-track again. Well, that too. But I really wanted to ask you about something else that's been on my mind for a while. Hm? What? * Vytor walks over to one of the technician chairs and spins it around to face Emiria, then sits down. I wanted to ask you about what happened with Mars. I missed part of it, and I wanted to hear your take on it. * Emiria sighs. "Right..." I'm sorry to bring this up like this, and I've tried not to, but...I just want to know. * Emiria plays off-handedly with some disordered locks of her hair, frowning. "It's fine. I guess I should have told you sooner..." Uh, this is so awkward. Remember that time we talked back at Vulcannon? * Vytor nods, "I do." Remember how I told you I got inspired sometimes, and you said you did too? And I asked you if people thought you acted weird, later? Yeah. * Emiria shrugs. "Well, that's what it's like for me, sometimes." Hmm. Do you remember everything that happened after I went down? * Emiria nods. So...why did you have such an extreme reaction to Mars? I wouldn't have thought you had that in you. * Emiria raises a hand and opens her mouth to explain, then lowers it and falls silent. She bites her lip and looks at the floor thoughtfully, twirling the tip of her braided hair nervously with one hand. I... don't know. It felt like the right thing to do? * Emiria shakes her head, sighing exasperatedly. The right thing to do... Things felt... different, like. One moment it felt like the right thing to do, then I notice everyone giving me 'the look' and I know I did something wrong, and... yeah. Well. It's not something I'd do. It just seemed like you became someone else for a while. That's... well, kind of disturbing. But it was still me, in a way... I mean, I remember everything and I felt everything, only it was like... I don't know how to explain. OK, but did you feel something like that when Pluto came aboard? * Emiria stands up and paces impatiently by her chair, drumming her fingers compulsively on the desks and tables she passes on the way. "I remember being really pissed off, and it's like I was suddenly a lot stronger and... what? No, I didn't feel anything special?" So...it was just Mars. I wonder if there will be a reaction when we find Venus. * Emiria stops walking, facing ahead towards the sea. "'A reaction'? You mean, if I'm going to try to kill her?" I won't even go that far. For all I know your reaction could be 100% different. One instance does not a trend make. * Emiria sighs, resting her elbows on a command console and staring ahead morosely. "And what do the others think?" I know they're confused at least. But beyond that, I can’t say. * Emiria nods quietly. If it means anything, as far as I'm concerned this is just yet another blip on the weirdness scope. Yeah, I guess I'm pretty big on the scope... * Vytor shrugs, "I'm not worried. We've begun to unravel some mysteries, this is just another one." * Emiria turns around, looking at Vytor oddly. "... really?" Sure. Just because we don't understand what's happening yet doesn't mean we never will. Even after everything? Even now that you know why people call me the Iron Witch? * Vytor nods * Emiria smiles slightly. "You're weird, Vytor." Guilty as charged. But I'm in good company with this lot. ^_^ * Emiria just smiles. * Vytor thinks a moment. You know... I wonder if this curious connection you have with Mars has anything to do with your power to work iron the way you do. I mean iron does have a strong elemental connection to fire, despite its overall earth aspect. You mean, because I can work iron I want to kill Mars? :P * Emiria grins. "The symbology and all sounds interesting, but I don't think that's it." I suppose you're right. Elemental theory was never my strong suit. Tanan might know. Or Tilea. To be honest, I didn't feel like hurting her at the start of the fight. I was annoyed and hot and I wanted a bath, sure, but it's not like that's enough for me to want to kill her kill her, you know? Just getting the job done and getting out would have been enough... Hmm...I wonder what changed then. Things just changed at some point. I didn't even notice- things felt so right until something burst into fire right in front of my eyes and people started yelling at me and looking like I was some kind of crazy. I wish I could have seen what happened for myself. * Emiria shrugs and smiles apologetically. "Sorry. I did get her pretty hard for busting you up though." Well, its my own fault for not being better prepared. I had that fire charm on me, and I thought it would be enough. But thanks for the effort. * Emiria walks back to her chair and flops down on it, looking more relaxed. You OK? Yeah. I'm just... I can do some stuff that no one else can, and not everyone likes that. On top of that, people sometimes say I go kind of crazy when I get inspired, and now it happened when fighting. After a while, people just start to look different at you, leave you out of things, wish you weren't there... it gets on my nerves. I was expecting that now, but so far... it's not too bad. You're in good company with this group. You're not the only one with some strangeness going on. Myself included. * Emiria lifts her hands to cushion the back of her head and reclines, looking strangely at home on the captain's chair. "Yeah. I kinda wish the same would happen to you, to have some company." ^^ Well, I haven't had a response like you did, but I can tell you about one piece of weirdness. * Emiria leans forward eagerly. "What?" Provided you keep it a secret. I don't want the others to worry. Sure. My lips are sealed and insulated. ^^ You know that reactor down there? Yeah? I don't know how it works. I don't know why it works. If you asked me to build one from scratch, I couldn't. But if you want me to maintain it or repair it, I can tell you exactly how. And I have no idea how I know any of this. * Emiria stands up, grinning, and offers Vytor a hand. "Partners in Razgriz & Dunbar Corp?" * Vytor blinks at the sudden topic change, "Huh?" You heard me. Not in the Academy, not at Vulcannon, not at Blacklace have I found anyone else that can do the kind of stuff I do- except you. I'm not gonna find anyone better. :) * Vytor looks like he's trying to catch up mentally with Emiria's train of thought, "You mean, like you asked me back at Volcanon?" * Emiria grins. "Full partners this time. I'm ready to beg and negotiate terms." * Vytor looks at Emiria's offered hand, "Well, I can't gaurantee how things will turn out after all this. I could end up dead..." * Vytor stands and claps Emiria's hand in his own, "For now, I'll give a provisional yes. Partners." * Emiria shrugs. "Then I'll keep your shares and you can sue me in the afterlife, and you can do the same in case I'm eaten by a giant tractor- excellent!" Let's hold off on the details though, at least until we finish saving the world, eh? * Emiria shakes his hand, nods, and crosses her arms while looking satisfied. "Sure. I know I'm not the easiest person to work with, but I'll try to be tolerable." Works for me, you can be the resolute iron, and I'll be the mercurial silver. * Emiria sits up on a strategic ops table, dangling her feet energetically. "So, what else you want to know?" Well, I did have another idea of how to make your axe-o-skeleton work. * Vytor reaches into his pocket and retrieves his well-worn notepad, flips a few pages, and sits down next to Emiria. * Emiria peers aside into the notebook curiously. "What is it?" I was thinking, if we can't make the silver change shape, maybe we can simply things. Maybe less elegant, but more plausible. * Vytor shows Emiria a rough sketch of what looks like a set of gears. See, the idea here to bypass the need to alchemically work the silver, and instead use the natural motion-magnifying capability of quicksilver in these gears. Oh, quicksilver gears... :o So you would use a more conventional and smaller power source and use the quicksilver to magnify the force? Right, the idea is to use the user's own natural movement, and let the quicksilver magnify it and handle the heavy work. Naturaly that would put an enormous amount of stress on the frame, hence the need for alchemical iron. Otherwise an alchemical silver frame would probably snap. I don't have all the details worked out, but I think its a good place to start. * Emiria smiles. "Interesting. Quicksilver muscles on an alchemical iron skeleton? That actually sounds like it could be workable..." I hope so. This also means the unit would be more universally adaptable to even non-adepts. * Emiria rubs her nose, looking at the sketches intently. "The design of these gears for them to support the wide range of movement that you can make are gonna be a bitch, but I think I can see it working. If we can pull it off, it'll be a work of genius, Mr. Dunbar." Its only genius if it works. Otherwise its a hobby. :P Well said. :P And hobbyists don't get paid. Hmm. I need a book on human anatomy... Hylan Academy probably has just about anything you'd need along those lines. * Emiria nods slowly. "I'll raid the library next time we're in the area..." I should too if I'm going to try to model this after human anatomy. My knowledge on the subject is kind of thin. * Emiria pats Vytor encouragingly on the back. "We'll manage something." ^^ I hope so. We'd be able to do a lot with a work tool like this. Yeah. More importantly... it's the kind of thing that we'd be able to show as proof of what we can do. This is major, major stuff. :) True enough. * Emiria hops off the table and smoothes her skirt. "Gosh, I have so many things I could work on, it's hard to know where to start. I'm really glad I came along with you guys!" Well, the way I look at it, is you take what's directly at your feet, and finish that first, Then you tackle what's next. * Vytor takes on an imperious look as he intones gravely, "The officer that looks too far ahead stumbles over his own boots." * Emiria makes a mock-salute. "Eheheh. I'll remember that." * Vytor chuckles In all seriousness though, we should stick to the tasks we have now, and in between we can work on side projects. Sure. I'm better off fixing this battleship until I get more stuff that will let me actually sit down and work the idea. ^^ * Vytor nods And on that note, I should probably get back to the reactor. Angie'll be mad if I stay away too long. * Emiria nods. "I'll leave you to that then. I'm still gonna be sitting here stewing ideas in my head and making sure we don't crash into anything." If you can crash us into something out here in the middle of nowhere, I'll be impressed. :P Uh... icebergs and stuff. I don't know. Mystery uncharted island? ^^; Good point. * Vytor closes his notebook and stands, "As long as you don't run over any islands, and I don't accidently set off an uncontrolled neutron flux, we'll be OK." * Emiria grins. "Good luck then." Thanks, you too. * Vytor smiles and waves as he heads for the door. GMVytor> The two inventors part ways to return to their respective tasks. But one critical question hangs in the air most dangerously: what has Ryllan been doing in the bathroom all this time anyways? ==Lude Ends Now!== Session Close: Mon Mar 19 17:26:01 2007
