Session Start: Sun May 21 21:34:26 2006 Session Ident: #lunar-iog2 * Logging #lunar-iog2 to 'logs\#lunar-iog2.log' * Ryllan changes topic to '-= Interlude 13.3: Persuit of the Patriarch | Location: Hylan Academy | Pools: 1287 ß, 7 MXP =- http://storen.rpgcafe.net/IoG/ | OOC chan: #iog-ooc ' Ryllan stalks the corridors leading to the study halls from the staff longues, losing sight of the group and the still shocked Trune. Up ahead, the furious patriarch of the McVrey family storms towards his Willforce Medicine 102 class that he is running late for... A moment, McVrey. * Ryllan 's voice is suddenly clipped and precise. A sign of the anger being tightly controlled, perhaps. "Begging won't do anything my bo-..." The old man whirls around, half expecting it to be Trune chasing him down to beg for forgiveness. So the elder magi is fairly surprised when it's Ryllan that he sees. Just figured I'd set the record straight about a few things. Unless you're so terribly busy that you want to make the biggest mistake of your life? [Prof. McVrey] Mr. Barak! Just what do you think you are doing? [Prof. McVrey] I haven't made any mistake. Rather corrected one that was long overdue. Really. Tell me, what was that original mistake? [Prof. McVrey] My mistake in letting that boy even leave these grounds with such a silly notion! You honestly think stopping him would have done any good? [Prof. McVrey] Trune has to learn there are greater things that silly whims. He has obligations to his father. I've a legacy to pass on, and I won't drop it on the shoulders of such an irresponsibile son! « that = than » [Prof. McVrey] There are plenty of other ways to try to make your mark in the Academy than trying to remake the wheel of the Elements, turn everything in the books on it's ear... * Ryllan actually /blinks/, rocking back on his heels. "You're a /teacher/. You teach healing spells. You're fairly competent at it." Lovely legacy, that. [Prof. McVrey] I might be known for the healing arts, but I'll have you know that I have contributed VOLUMES of what now appears in textbooks for a wide avriety of disciplines. [Prof. McVrey] My position on the senior staff is all due to this hard work.. my sweat and tears of decades. And the McVrey name that is tied to this. So obviously, young man, you can see why I am appalled that my son wishes to throw it all away on some heretical folly. [Prof. McVrey] Plus nearly end up dead just to stubbornly chase it! The professor shakes a wizened fist at that, showing that maybe Trune's qualities were inherited from a certain adept. Never minding that he's proven his theories to an authority higher than you? [Prof. McVrey] Just what are you babbling about? "Higher authority"? Bah. If you're trying to say Headmaster Hylan actually gave him the time of day, I'll have to give you a quick spell for your case of delusions. * Ryllan sighs, "Idiot. Too stubborn to listen to the truth. What was that you were saying about Trune being Stubborn?" [Prof. McVrey] Don't talk back to me, Mr. Barak. I'll have you know it is that quality which got me where I am today. He can be as stubborn as he wants, but it's no longer my concern. Actually, it is. You think disinheriting him preserves your family name? /please/. He still carries it. Might not want to, but he's on the books. Records of him know him as Trune McVrey. [Prof. McVrey] Yes he does! Along with heaps of scorn, libel, and various other nonsense! This is a lesson about what you reap. « afk just a sec. » The professor finally starts breaking down into a tirade of emotion, venting to Ryllan... [Prof. McVrey] Does he even realize how much he hurts his own father? Even for a moment! [Prof. McVrey] All of the terrible chocies.. each a dagger in my old heart! He doesn't see them as terrible. [Prof. McVrey] How could I have raised such a hopeless upstart?! Professor... He's a teenager. [Prof. McVrey] Tell me why then, Barak, why are they "good" choices. What in Virtue's blessed name is he seeking to do? send me to an early grave with grief? Right now? He's seeking to save some of the most important people in the world. Along with the rest of us. We have a good shot at it, too. And, believe it or not, his theories are an integral part. You should be proud of him. [Prof. McVrey] Preposterous... how could such ideas actually save the Blue Star? I ask for proof, and all I get is a toy noisemaker. The academy is extraordinarily warded. You know that as well as I do. The professor narrows an eye. [Prof. McVrey] Even so, there is no possible chance he stands against this evil. Why is he throwing his lfie away for nothing? You have seen what happens to those who stand in the way of this entitity. « er entity » [Prof. McVrey] More importantly, why are YOU doing this? Are you some star struck boy who also thinks he's invicible? No. Just someone who has a way to counter her little trick. And someone who perhaps, knows that doing what HAS to be done takes priority over my own safety. [Prof. McVrey] ...hrph... trying to be heroes... [Prof. McVrey] *folds his arms* ...why does the world need MY son to be a hero? [Prof. McVrey] He could have picked a much better way to go about this. Because your son has some fort of connection to these element personas of his theory. Yes, they exist. I'm not debating this with you. [Prof. McVrey] What, Elemental telepathy? It's always been discussed, but never substantiated. He always babbled about sentient elemental beings and the basis in some obscure books... Precisely. Like I said earlier. I /met/ one. they don't exist precisely the way he originally theorized, but they are there and they /are/ very powerful. The old man stands there, trying to get a feel for Ryllan's words. His anger seems to be ebbing away, either due to exhaustion or Ryllan's attempt to outdue his stubborn streak. * Ryllan 's tone has become almost gentle, "They just might be the key to saving us all." [Prof. McVrey] ...goddess damnit, you ARE serious aren't you? Your brainwaves are not coming across as lying. Absolutely. * ZackMovie is now known as Zack [Prof. McVrey] And believe me.. i would know.. there is nos ecret of the human body that I cannot gauge. You are the perfect picture of mental health. Which is not what I want to see right now -- [Prof. McVrey] So if you are not a bunch of idelaistic quacks and charlatain, what then? Do you expect me just to waltz over and say that I am sorry? < I expect you to do whatever you feel is right, given your new information. The professor grumbles, a few grey hairs coming undone from his cap. "You're different, Barak. not at all like that vile golddigger Mikayla..." [Prof. McVrey] If you are any representation of the friends Trune's making now, maybe he has already learned his lesson. [Prof. McVrey] But regardless of what you say, I won't take back what was said. Not until Trune proves to me that he is unequivocally correct. The McVrey name accepts nothing less than success. [Prof. McVrey] ..and I'm going to ask that you and your little "band" of "heroes" make sure he does not get killed doing it. Do you hear me, Barak? We'll watch out for him. Don't worry. [Prof. McVrey] Good! Now, get out of here before I throw you in detention! That'd be tricky, I'm on a Leave of Absence. * Ryllan saunters off anyway, feeling rather pleased with himself. The teacher puts his foot down, leaving the conversation on that note and hurrying to his class at double speed. Ryllan is left with the sneaking suspicion that this man is only doing what he does because he loves his son a lot more than he cares to admit. « if that's all, we can end there. » == Lude End! == Tah dah!
