==LUDE FTW== * Niri hums to herself as she ducks into the meeting tent, oblivious to the fact that she's soaked from the rain. She carries a few bundles of supplies and starts trying to find room in her pack for them. Hmmm, wonder where the others ran off to? Seem to remember something about Vytor giving some kinda demonstration... * Tanan is leaning back in a chair, writing in a small book. He looks up and over as Niri walks in. "Oh. Hello." Hiya! *Stuffing her purchases into the bag* Whatcha working on? * Tanan raises an eyebrow. "Working on? Oh." He looks down at the book. "Just a working journal of sorts. Jotting a few things down, is all." * Storen changes topic to '-= Interlude 7.3: Professing an Interest | Location: Old Capital, Staging Area | Pools: 534 §, 0 MXP =- http://storen.rpgcafe.net/IoG/ | OOC chan: #iog-ooc ' Oh. Like, a personal journal, or academic? *Glowers* I think I bought too many herbs. << Ouch, Storen. ;) >> « hope that helps :) » <> * Tanan closes the book, tucking the pen away. "A little of A, a little of B. A lot's happened the last few days. I'm going to need a bigger book at this rate." That's true! *Shakes her head* I'm still kind of overwhelmed about Jupiter and Dr. Webbly. I mean, I knew SOMEthing was down there, but...this is kind of unreal! * Tanan grins. "Even someone with your experiences thinks that?" He trails off, looking around. "It does make me a little nervous, honestly. We're dealing with a weapon made in the devestation war. I mean, he might be a really nice guy for all we know, but..." Well, I've never encountered anyone ALIVE in the ruins! And like you said, especially not a...human weapon. *Frowns, looking upset* He SEEMS nice. But maybe he's never had the chance to be allowed to be nice. I don't know if that makes any sense. * Tanan nods. "You're right. Who can say what it would be like to be like that? It's not something that comes up with people very often. Times must have been so different." Yeah, no kidding. I can hardly imagine it. I should ask Mom about it, I guess...she might be able to tell me something. She knows a lot about that time period, but she doesn't always talk about it. * Tanan chuckles. "That must be interesting, having parents like yours." * Tanan looks at Niri, apparently trying to decide something. "Nirika.. Niri? I'd like to ask you a serious question, if that's all right. Your point of view is... different tham a lot of the people we're traveling with. You have a sort of innocent enthusiasm that's... ahem. Maybe you can tell me if I'm just being cynical, or if you think there might be something to it too. If I asked someone like Ryllan, I'm sure he'd just agree with me outright." Umm, sure. Go for it. *Looking a little perplexed, as she has no idea what question he'd need to ask her, of all people* You and your father have been running around these ruins for some time now, right? I've read some of the accounts of stuff he's found, and other explorers have... we've never unearthed anything quite like this * Tanan leans back. "And we wouldn't have been able to, without that staff. Which from all I've heard, the mayor would never have given up if... well.. " * Niri nods Yeah...um. * Tanan leans forward. "So here's the question. People seem to think this prophetess can manipulate time. Maybe even see the future a little. People claim master Hylan can, but who knows. Anyway... isn't everything we're doing a direct result of what _she_ did, at that tournament? If she hadn't shown up, we never would have come here, we never would have woken Jupiter... and she did stare at us let us go back there." I guess I'm just worried that we're doing what she wants us to. Hmmm. That's...definitely something I hadn't thought about! * Niri looks deep in thought, pondering this with a somewhat serious expression on her face. Well, It seems a little complicated a plot, and it makes a number of assumptions about what we could be expected to do. To be honest, we really don't know enough about this Prophetess to know if she would plan ahead that extensively, do we? I mean, you have a point, and it's possible. But we need to learn more. One thing I don't think, though, is that this Prophetess has any direct control over the Elementalors. Not right now she doesn't, anyway. Can't say why, I just...have a feeling. There's a lot more to this than we know, but I don't think Jupiter is an agent of hers or anything like that. At least, I hope not. ...Now that you mention it, though, it really does make me wonder who this first in command of the Elementalors IS, anyway... It could be her. I mean, probably not. I hope not. But.. it's a possibility. He did say he answered to someone else, even if he couldn't remember who. Don't you think that's pretty darn weird? I mean, knowing you answer to someone but not who? It'd make sense if he knew who his director superior was, but not who THEY answered to...but...huh. I wonder if his memory got messed up during his time in hibernation? That's the only thing I can think of, unless they purposefully messed up his memory when they created him to prevent them from somehow turning on both people who could control them. You saw how he reacted to us. There must not have been many adepts at all back then, making one would probably have scared people. * Tanan shrugs. "You might be right, though. The headmistress is the one who sent us out here, more or less. I'd hate to think she was working with the prophetess. I can't imagine it, not after the attack on the way to the festival." You know...somehow that makes a lot of sense. That the people who made him would be afraid of him. *Shakes her head* They seem like they were pretty paranoid people. It's really sad, actually. *Shoves the last of her bundles in her pack angrily* And it pisses me off, too! Nah, not Haylee. And with her powers, and her husband's, she's not the type to be easily manipulated, either. Well... I don't know that I'd judge them too harshly. Maybe they were right to be afraid. After all, look what happened. It took thousands of years before we could even come back here, and there's still places to the north you just don't go. * Tanan smiles. "Yeah.. you're right. Maybe I'm being too paranoid. I'll relax a bit, but still keep an eye out. What Jupiter is isn't his fault, he deserves a fair chance." * Tanan stands up, stretching his arms. "I should stop by the shops here myself while I still have a chance, who knows where we'll wind up next. But thanks... and Niri?" Yeah? Could I ask you one little favor? Well, sure. What is it? *Blinks* You don't actually HAVE to call me 'professor' all the time. You're what, 16? 17? * Tanan smiles a little. "it's like you people are trying to make me feel old." * Niri laughs. "Okay, I guess so. I guess one reason I call you that is BECAUSE you're so close to my age." I mean, otherwise it'd be hard for me to remember you're an authority figure, you know? Makes me wonder...how DID you end up a teacher at such a young age? I'd never be able to manage it. * Tanan grins. "It was about half convincing the headmistress I wasn't dangerous, and half being able to say "Theory of entropomancy" in an authoritative voice." * Tanan chuckles. "Besides, I bow to your superior ruin-diving experience, but I'd really rather not call you Sub-head explorer. Or.. whatever the title would be. Superior Ruin Spelunker?" * Niri snrks. "Oh yeah, the academic attitude, huh? That's what I've never been able to manage. I'm too flighty and too much of a tomboy. In fact, I'm surprised I PASSED your class." And bah! I have no title, I'm just "Hiro's kid." :P * Tanan shrugs. "You gave it a good try. I more teach theory than practice anyway. Your friend Leah's like the only person I've seen who does anything like it in application." You gave an effort, and did better than most of the class. That sounds like passing to me. Besides... I'm starting to suspect I'm not really cut out for professoring. Running through those tunnels was kind of.. thrilling. I think I see why your dad does it for a living. Yeah, Leah's...odd. Even I don't have the slightest idea how she does it, and we're good friends! *Grins* But yeah, it's fun to get out there and DO stuff. Maybe you need to balance both! Teach, but also get out there and experiment with your theories in the field, you know? With all the stuff we're finding, you never know when your magic could come in handy in the ruins or on a dig. *nods enthusiastically* I know Dad would be excited. But then, it's not hard to get Dad excited about anything, really... * Tanan laughs. "No, it isn't, is it? I've only known him for a day or two and I can already tell that." Yeah. :P Most people figure that out in less than five minutes. ...Eep! Look at the time. I just realized I haven't finished getting my weapons and stuff checked out! I gotta go. :/ Anything else you wanted to ask me? Oh! No, no. I'm sorry to have kept you. A lot to do and not much time to do it. Nah, no big deal! I just get easily distracted. I spent too long getting herbs and stuff. Okay, see you in a bit! *Grabs her pack and rushes off* Oof, this is heavy! *Manages to save herself from tripping and falling into a puddle on her way out the tent door* * Tanan winces a little, then chuckles. "Careful! See you." ==LUDE END YAY==
