The Destiny land cruiser hums ryhtmically as it puts more miles between the group and the still-reeling metropolis of New Meribia. Some of you have said your goodbyes for the moment, heading towards what you hope are answers at the Hylan Academy. While it feels like you are deserting the people of the coastal city, you are sure that that order will be restored quickly. But just who will lead the people now? The weather is fair, and the pavement well kept on this highly traveled roadway. The vehicle has ample windows and room, so you can get some air and watch the lovely forest scenery go by. * Vytor continues to monitor the engines and power settings, reluctant to see Jack's dream get damaged by inattention [Hiro] This thing sure moves quick for a larger model. I thought it'd take nearly a day to get to the Academy. But we'll be there in another hour, tops. * Trune sits near one of the Destiny's windows, sitting in a chair with his feet on the table. He's quiet as he watches the scenery go by. I think it might be making better time than the vehicles on the trip from the academy, honestly. Jack does great work. THis has been a part of his dream for years * Saki is outside, sitting up against the cab wall of the cruiser's cargo bed, watching the point on the horizon where the city disappeared. She's been quiet since leaving town. * Ryllan sits in the driver's seat, careful to keep the vehicle on course, but not exactly white-knuckling the wheel either. He nods at Hiro's comment, "45 minutes, I'd say. Handles like an absolute dream, too." * Vytor looks over at Jack's comatose body, still concerned but having no idea how to help him. Hiro looks thoughtful, thinking about another "Destiny" long ago. He's been sitting right next to Jack, keeping an eye on him. There's been no change... perhaps the willforce healers can help reverse his condition? * Vytor looks up from his workstation, "SO, can I ask everyone's names? I might have missed some of them in all the falderall." * Trune looks up slightly, "Trune. Vytor, right?" Yep, that's me * Trune nods a bit and goes back to his stare out the window. * Ryllan raises a hand, not looking back, "Ryllan." * Tanan glances over at Vytor. "I'm Tanan Wardin. That was a little hectic, wasn't it?" Just a bit. I haven't faced that kind of excitement in a good long while. [Hiro] Hiro Salyan.. the one and only. * Niri waves her hand from her seat near a window, where she watches the landscape roll by. "I'm Niri, if you didn't catch it." * Niri grins and impulsively shoulder-hugs her father, though she is still a bit preoccupied. * Vytor waves to Niri, then taps a few dials on the wall to make sure they're not sticking * Ryllan calls out after a moment, "Hey! Huge angry lady in back, the man asked your name." Hiro puts a protective arm around his daughter. "You feeling alright, Niri? This has sure been a lot to take in." Oh, I'm fine, Dad! I mean, well, it kind of messed up our vacation. And I'm not happy about what happened. But hey...there still may be a chance to save several of the people who were hurt, so there's no point in being too discouraged. Besides, I smell some adventure cropping up, if I'm not mistaken...! * Saki tilts her head back a little, then cranes around and calls towards the cab window, her voice not carrying well in the wind but doing enough. "It's Saki, Saki Isai. You were at the tournament, you should know it." I was. They weren't. You weren't answering them. Hey Dad, can we take a closer look at those books and documents we took from the ruins as soon as we get back to the Academy? I think they're something really important in there... Hiro nods approvingly. "Big things are happening, alright. I hope we can speak with the Hylans and get a better idea of what we may be facing. Plus, I've got some business with old man Gwyn & Damon, myself." * Zack is now known as ZackAway Think you can get their noses out of their books long enough to hold a conversation? * Saki doesn't reply to that, instead standing carefully to glance at the road ahead, shielding her eyes from the wind for a moment. [Hiro] Well, they can't be oblivious to something like this! * Trune mumbles, "You'd be surprised." Saki can't see Meribia any longer, the trees covering the horizon behind the cruiser... in front, you begin to see the forest parting, pierced by a small tower and surrounded by smaller buildings. * Vytor is satisfied with the instruments, so takes a moment to relax before arrving * Saki - lightly - knocks on the cab once to get people's combined attention. "Oi. Something's coming up." * Vytor perks up and looks out the front window What's out there? * Niri glances outside. * Trune looks out the window, "Eh? Nothin' out there but trees and unpleasant places." Wait, I think I see the Academy up ahead. ^_^ Like I said, unpleasant places. Coming up over the horizon slowly but surely is the university city of Hylan. A loose collection of residential homes, commerical buildings and cultivated land spreads out in a circular pattern from the central axis, while the magically powered lights are just beginning to come on as eviing falls. Yeesh, what's YOUR problem? « er evening » You're like some kind of raincloud of doom and destruction. * Trune smiles sweetly, "I try, Princess." * Tanan looks out the window at the academy. "Ah, home." Yes, you're VERY trying. * Saki continues to dully watch the city come into view from her perch on the cargo bed, rubbing lightly at one temple. Thanks! Do me a favor, when we get there, can you take a bathroom break so you can get that stick out of your butt? * Vytor slides a glance at Niri and Trune, wondering what's going on with those two Man, and you're calling ME surly? You're not doing too badly yourself. * Niri rolls her eyes and continues to look out the window. "Well, I TRIED to be friendly, and you decided to be Mr. Snarky. So never mind!" She glances at the others and rolls her eyes to show her complete exasperation with him. * Trune hehs and looks out the window once more. * Tanan looks back and forth between Trune and Niri * Niri is now ignoring Trune. * Ryllan chuckles lowly at Niri and Trune, "I can see why everyone likes you so much, Trune. You just have so much personal /charm/." * Niri tries to bite back a snicker at Ryllan's comment. * Trune chooses to ignore the conversation. * Saki grits her teeth for a moment, resisting the urge to dent the roof of the cruiser; muttering lowly to herself, she returns to watching the city come into view. Nestled in the protective woods and fed by a system of rivers, it is quite a welcoming sight. The last bits of sun are setting behind it, only adding to the aura of power and beauty. Seriously. Win friends, influence people. It works a lot better than making an enemy of everyone you meet. [Hiro] Yeah, Trune. we may be stuck toigether for a bit. TRy to get along, alright? * Niri brightens, glad to see her almost-home! It's such a nice day today! .. * Trune sighs and just resumes looking out the window * Tanan nods to Niri. "Almost enough to make you forget." It is strange, isn't it? Travel a few miles... and it's almost like nothing happened at all. * Niri noids << nods, dangit >> Maybe those weirdos got what they wanted and left [Hiro] I'm certain things will settle down, though the power vacuum left is going to be a real problem down the line. I'm less worried about the power vacuum than if somewhere else will be hit One crisis at a time * Saki keeps her thoughts to herself, muttering lowly. [Hiro] Well, it's a fair bet that the other Truth Seekers are in the crosshairs. Heck, even I might be! ...The Headmistress is a smart woman. She'll have an idea. For her own self-preservation, at least. Gah! Dad, no! If you talk like that I'll sic Mom on you. * Vytor looks weirdy at Trune again [Hiro] *looks concerned* I sure hope she's alright. :/ * Trune looks at Vytor, "What?" * Niri looks even more upset at the thought that Lucia might not be okay! You're full of sunshine today, aren't you? Uh...I don't suppose we could make a slight detour to check on things at home? ^^; What? Geez, I was just stating something. At this rate, maybe I really should just shut it. [Hiro] I'm going to get a message through when we're at the Academy. I want her to meet us at the dig site, Niri. She was going to come eventually anyway... Sensitive too :\ Okay...good idea... Not senstive. Exasperated. Great, now my stomach is twisting into a knot. :/ Hiro smiles a bit. "If only to yell at me for risking your life a few more times." ^^ * Niri can't help but giggle a little at that. Approaching the outskirts of town, you begin to see the sides of the road lit by a series of dull orbs, spaced evenly to either side of the Destiny. A few people are still out in the fenced-in fields not far beyond and they wave to you as you pass! Obviously no trouble here yet * Trune ducks a bit in his seat. Things still seem peaceful enough, yeah * Saki returns a couple of the nods purely out of politeness, looking slowly over the town and shaking her head to herself. "... did we really beat her here?" I doubt it was a race, if we did. Up ahead the roadway splits into two lanes going in opposite directions. There is also what appears to be a checkpoint/guard house coming up in another mile. * Niri looks anxious to get out. A small section of the roadway near the structure glows and a barrier rises up automatically. Is that new? Next to it, a robed young man with a staff and a sword strapped to his belt approaches. * Ryllan stops the Destiny in front of the Barrier, "I doubt they remember me, so someone with a bit of status here want to come up and talk to the nice gentleman? [Guardsman] Slow down folks... business please? « er your » * Saki leans on the cab and watches the barrier with quiet disinterest, pointing down into the body of the cruiser. "Talk to them." << You don't need to see our identification... >> «ooc: POE SWORD POE SWORD! » * Tanan leans over to look out the window. "We're returning from New Meribia. Did the headmistress make it back all right?" Hiro gives a wave to the sentry as well. * Tanan points back into the cab with a thumb. "We also have a troublemaker named Trune with us. That ring a bell? Think you could take him off our hands or something?" <> [Guardsman] Ah-hah! Prof. Wardin! My sincere apologies. I was told to expect you here, but you seem to be a bit early. The headmistress is already in the academy grounds and resting from her ordeal. [Guardsman] Please go right on in. * Tanan smiles. "Thank you very much." The barrier shimmers and falls with a smiles of the young sentry, as it becomes obvious that the fellow is probably the one maintaining it with his willpower. Well, that was painless * Ryllan lets out a low whistle as he hits the acceleration again, taking off towards the Headmistress' residence. * Niri nods. "Well, it does help to be recognized." (m) Usually. Yeah, wouldn't be as easy for total strangers to drive in, I'd think. Hey, by the way prof, you been teaching any courses this term? Er Well You proceed through the checkpoint without further delay and are soon rumbling down the main street of the east section of town. Many residential dwellings line the street, what you assume to be a large collection of student dorms. On street level is also a good array of shops and eateries. * Tanan scratches his head. "Yes, but mostly just basic healing." * TheStoryteller changes topic to '-= Chapter 3 - School Daze | Location: Hylan Academy, East Town | 1100 § | 5 MXP =- OOC chan at #iog-ooc ' Ah, okay. The students just can't handle your advanced stuff, can they? I think I'm missing something as far as explaining the technique, honestly. * Saki continues to watch the town carefully and in silence; noting points of interest but mostly looking for anything out of place. What /is/ the technique, anyway? Mulling around is some gangs of students here and there, heading home for the day from hitting the books. There are also quite a lot of non-students as well, older folks and even famileis out for a stroll in the crisp air. You would think it's just another day. Iforgot how nice it is here It's kind of complicated, but... well, usually magic is applying a specific force to do a specific thing, right? * Niri scratches her head. "Well...to be honest, I had a ton of trouble in that class too. I think part of it might be that it's hard to explain any sort of process for something that is...well...basically chaos." * Ryllan nods, "Sure, that's basic theory." Conditions can make it easier. I mean, if you're trying to light something on fire and it's hot and dry, that's a lot simpler than if it's dripping wet. * Tanan sighs, looking a little frustrated. "But it goes further than that. When things are just right, you can make.. a lightning bolt from almost nothing, or something. The problem is finding the right place to nudge things, and then being able to re-create the situation. I can't even do it reliably, so it's hard to expect others to learn it from me I guess Some kids are playing in the square to your left, conjuring up sculptures of fire, wind and ice and trying to outdo each other. ^^ * Vytor watches the children's construction eforts with interest Well, you'll get there eventually, I suppose. Sometimes it's hard to word things when it comes to magic. To be honest, half of it is instinct with me anyway... * Niri smiles at the kids out the window! * Trune actually smiles at the kids as well, waving a little. [Hiro] Everybody here is really dedicated, but also a bit of easygoing atmosphere, compared to Meribia. * Saki breathes out slowly, managing to relax a little what with the rather peaceful scenery. She'd prefer being back in Horam, true; but this'll do. So, basically, it's a matter of applying the force when everything's just right, but it's impossible to predict /when/ everything will be just right, so you have to take what's available? * Tanan brightens up. "It's a nice blend of co-operation and comptetion, isn't it?" * Tanan points at Ryllan. "Exactly! The problem is teaching people how to do that. There's usually a whole lot of flailing that goes on." There are many side streets to explore, but Ryllan continues on straight ahead, as this leads to the base of the modest tower that serves as the hub of the community and seat of the Academy's intellgensia. Not far from it, the scenery changes to much larger buildings, classrooms, and study halls. By the looks of it, some of the faculty works into the night. So where exactly on campus are we going? Right to the center, I guess, unless anyone has anything pressing they really want to do first * Trune looks at one of the lit windows and grins, "Wonder if Prof. Hadensen is gonna make another late night experiement explosion again?" Oh heavens. I hope not. That tends to upset people sleeping nearby. * Niri snickers. I'm sure glad I live outside the city. * Ryllan laughs, "And it might upset /us/, too, if that's his window over there." It is, but don't worry, he only makes things explode about once a month on average. The road continues a short way further, then split into two, going around the spire in a semi-circle. You spot a few other vehicles parked off to the side of it. There's a good deal of willforce guardians outside.. more than Tanan remembers seeing in awhile. * Vytor checks on the engine guages again, just in case Huh. They've stepped up security, I see. Vytor notices everything is fine, though the silver tank is beginning to get low. A refuel would be wise. * Ryllan makes to park, seeing if the guardians will object to him doing so. We might want to goet fuel if we're going to head somewhere else * Saki feels the cruiser start to slow, and takes this opportunity to hop off of it, landing lightly on the ground. A woman in a red runic-engraved breastplate over white robes notices your approach and calls for your attention, motioning for you to stop near the front curb. « the vehicle that is. » * Ryllan does indeed stop, not wanting to get all blown up. There's an orange marker with a slash through a picture of a car. None allowed any further, as it would damage the grounds no doubt. And here we are. Nothing like getting called to see the people in charge when you're not getting yelled at for something. She comes over and opens the door for you like a practiced valet. (w) Ah, rapture. [Female Staffer] Prof. Wardin and company, I presume? * Ryllan jokes, "First time for you, Professor?" as he hops out of the cruiser. * Saki walks around the cruiser, waiting next to the woman with her arms crossed. * Trune sighs and shakes his head, figuring he'd better get this over with. He walks behind the rest of the group. That's us, yes * Tanan glances to Ryllan. "Like I said.. flailing." * Tanan looks back to the woman. "Is the headmistress ready for us?" [Female Staffer] Yes, please go right inside to the offices. * Tanan steps out of the cruiser. "Thank you. Coming, everyone?" There is a very fine archway, engraved with wings and other interesting motifs, sheltering a set of two oak doors. * Vytor hops out of the vehicle and follows the group At either side are more of the runic armor-clad guards standing watch. * Saki looks up at the tower for a moment, then nods once, falling into step behind Tanan. * Ryllan follows the group to the tower. [Female Staffer] Er... is that fellow inside alright? Not really ^^; * Trune follows the others quietly, as to not attract much attention to himself. * Tanan stops, looking back. "No. He was... harmed in the attack. That's Jack, one of the..." * Niri lemmings. * Tanan shakes his head. "We thought maybe someone here could help him. Or maybe not. It didn't seem right to just leave him back there." * Trune stops for a moment upon hearing Tanan. He seems to heasitate. She's looking at the unconscious Jack lying in the back seat. "Attack? Oh, you don't mean... mmm. May I take him to the infirmary then?" Please do . o O ( Dammit. ) * Tanan nods, thanks the woman, and turns again to go into the building The woman closes her eyes and concentrates, beginning to levitate Jack outside of the Destiny. You'd think he was lying in a stretcher, but he's hovering on his back with only empty air underneath and a slight fizzle of mental force projection. Pro--er...ah, nevermind. * Trune just sighs and follows. She excuses herself, bowing to you, then walking slowly with the comatose TRuth Seeker in tow. * TheStoryteller changes topic to '-= Chapter 3 - School Daze | Location: Hylan Academy, Main Bldg. | 1100 § | 5 MXP =- OOC chan at #iog-ooc ' So where to? The offices are this way. I assume the headmistress is in hers, and if not someone should know where she is. You arrive in the lobby of the administrative building. There are sets of finely carved chairs and fine wall-to-wall carpeting, leading up to a reception desk. A mousey looking secretary is arguing with with a yellow haired upper-class magician as you arrive. * Vytor follows quietly behind the group * Saki looks singularly unimpressed at the decor, standing off to one side of the group and rubbing at her temple again. [Secretary] Miss Lemina, are you sure this is wise? The last time you tried that... * Trune doesn't look too phased at the decor. It's obvious he's been here at least once. [Lemina] What, are you saying I shouldn't? It'll be the biggest fund raiser ever! The Goddess Festival will have nothing on this! [Secretary] Last time you did that, we were filing complaints for weeks about malfunctions of your little toys. :/ * Tanan winces at the mention of the festival, walking towards the two. Do we need to take a number or something? [Lemina] What? I totally fixed the Mega Magic Tester! It was just a bug, really... [Secretary] I don't.. err... yes? Can I help you gentlemen? * Tanan forces a smile and repeats where the group is going for what feels like the tenth time since arriving in town. "We're here to see the headmistress, is she in?" Lemina crosses her arms by the counter. "That oaf Ramus better not have gotten injured on me. We had a deal." * Radien (trilluser@c-67-171-218-69.hsd1.or.comcast.net) has joined #lunar-iog2 * ChanServ sets mode: +v Radien * Trune glances at Lemina in slight disbelief. . o O ( Oh wow, I feel the love from her...wait, isn't that? Oh yeah, that explains a lot. ) [Secretary] Headmistress, do you have an appointment..? *she straightens her glasses* Ah, yes. She's expecting you. Please head up to the 10th floor. * Ryllan (~doomgaze@staff.lunarnet.org) Quit (Quit: THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK!) * DooM_GazE (~michaela@S010600306512722d.cg.shawcable.net) has joined #lunar-iog2 * ChanServ sets mode: +o DooM_GazE Lemina forgets her schemes and looks over the new arrivals. Hiro grins. "Still up to your old tricks, huh Lemina?" * DooM_GazE is now known as Ryllan * Niri waves casually to Lemina and smiles. ^_^ [Lemina] Well, I AM the mighty Bursar of the Hylan Academy! If I didn't manage the money, this place wouldn't be half as mega-cool as it is. ;) [Lemina] So you're going to see the big shot Haylee, huh? It's been pretty tense around here since she got back from the Festival. Nothing like usual. * Saki winces softly to herself, but it's hard to tell if it's Lemina's mode of speech or whatever she's currently wrapping herself up in. Well, ah....a lot happened at the festival. ^^; What she said. * Vytor waits patiently, having little idea who this exuberant person is * Ryllan looks at Lemina, "And that's an understatement. And the headmistress wanted to see us as soon as possible. So, if you don't mind, Miss Ausa, we need to be leaving." We'll be seeing you, Miss Ausa. Tell Ramus I said howdy. [Lemina] Ta-ta then. Lemina storms out of the lobby somewhere... * Tanan waves a little, and moves onward! * Saki just about registers the group moving on, following them further into the building. Ah, I feel the love today. :p * Trune walks on * Vytor whistles quietly as he walks You proceed onwards, passing some staffers chatting in hushed tones about an 'incident' near the lift. * Ryllan snrks, "You might feel more if you generated more." He shrugs though, continuing to move. * Niri 's ears perk up * Niri turns to Ryllan. "I think what he REALLY needs is a plushie." [Professor] Did you hear? They say the strange woman used temporal manipulation at the Festival. How could that be? Does anyone remember professor.. professor.. who was it who accidentally made herself smile for a day straight? * Tanan frowns * Trune just stares at Ryllan, "That wasn't even DIRECTED at you! Grrh!" * Niri giggles. A second staffer mumbles about Johnathan's absence recently from affairs. * Saki blinks up at talk of the woman, cocking an ear to the conversation. I wonder how much the people here know Niri doesn't catch much more that a few fragments, as they step into another elevator and the doors close. The one before you is wide open and awaiting riders going up. Quite a bit, I'd imagine, Vytor. They /are/ some of the most accomplished mages in the world. I think he meant about the festival * Vytor heads into the elevator, "Etierh way, answers would be highly spiffy." I stand by my answer. * Ryllan follows Vytor into the elevator. * Saki follows after the group, looking awkward as she takes up a corner of the elevator. * Niri frowns, not liking the comment about John. New Meribia is one of the biggest cities around. Word would travel no matter who got attacked...though the fact they were important people helps speed it along. Filing in, you notice there are no buttons or any other type of interface, though the lift is quite ornately decorated and has a meter for what floor it is on. * Trune heads into the elevator, standing next to Niri due to lack of space rather than actual want. >_< Tenth floor, going up! * Tanan reaches out to touch the elevator wall and concentrates Just by thinking of his destination, Tana causes the willforce device to activate and the doors zip closed dutifully. You are soon ascending. « er Tanan » * Vytor presses against one of the elevator walls to make room for others * Niri squishes. The walls have now become translucent, and you can see out some onto the floors you gradually pass by. Hiro is smushed into a corner, making way for Niri. Hmmm....maybe we could have taken two elevators? * Saki grits her teeth, finding the sudden transparency of the walls highly disorienting. Would have been smarter. *shrugs* We'll live. Nonsense! We could fit at least two more people in here. Maybe three if they were very small. C'mon, if you wanna be an exploerer, you should at least handle elevators. You can catch a glimspe here and there of the professors mulling around and also a few well apportioned executive lounges. (m) Damn, maybe I should have stayed on. The lift slows down and the doors open once again. The meter is pointing to a stylized '10', one away from the end of the scale at 11. Is this our stop? Yep. We're free to uncramp ourselves whenever you people in the front would like. Uh, yeah, right. * Niri squeezes out of the elevator. * Trune starts to head out of the elevator, squeezing his way past others as he does so. You see a finely decorated hallway that goes to the left and right. There are lots of plants and there is a very sweet melody wafting through the halls. You feel extremely relaxed here. * Vytor walks out once its clear to do so * Ryllan exits the elevator, pushing people out with him if it becomes necessary. «ooc: Exits: left, right, lift. There is a Tanan here. » << Hee >> « hey I made MUDs a bit ;) » * Tanan << walks out of the door, becoming so relaxed that he just takes a nap right then and there. >> * Saki rather roughly exits the lift, looking rather relieved to be on stable ground again, even if that ground is rather high up. * Tanan waits until everyone else is out to step out of the elevator Hiro exits with a sigh of thanks. "So, I think it's on the left." * Niri looks around appreciatively. Usually she meets with Haylee in the music wing. * Trune hms, "Nice music." * Vytor follows the group, since he doesn't know where he's going * Tanan moves forward again, heading for the correct office. Apparently he's been up here before You recall it being one of Haylee's custom numbers.. it is just a gentle humming that functions almost better than any instrumental by itself. Taking a left at the junction, it soon comes to an end before a very large dorr. It looks like it is made of glass, but you cannot see through it, only blackness. « door » Weird looking door * Tanan reaches up to knock As Tana reaches up to rap upon it, it begins to shift it's nature. The material becomes clear as crystal... before then washing out colors even further, and vanishing like it was never there. « er Tanan » * Niri blinks. I never get used to this sort of thing. ...Fancy. * Saki grimaces at the effect, looking somewhat put off. "... and what is wrong with wood?" It's just more impressive. Beyond it you can see the blonde haired headmistress sitting at the head of a large conference table, made out of similar material. Session Time: Sat May 14 00:00:00 2005 * Niri smiles and waves to Haylee as they enter. * Tanan shrugs, walking in. "It's style, really." There are sets of windows at eaither side, affording a lovely view of the academy-city. * Vytor waves to Haylee Hello, headmistress * Ryllan enters, "Headmistress." He nods once, "I'm not sure if you remember me..." [Haylee] Welcome, welcome... I'm glad to see you made it safely. Hello, Headmistress. Glad to see you're okay as well. « ahem. green hair. yes. silly GM. » * Saki walks inside the room, nodding once at Haylee before taking up a position at the back of the room near the door. The door reappears behind Saki. [Haylee] How could I forget, Ryllan? You put on quite the performance. * Ryllan winces, "And gave /her/ an opening for her own 'show'." [Haylee] Please get comfortable.. there's plenty of seats. Just let me know if you need anything before we talk in depth. * Tanan pulls out a chair and sits down. "It's not like it was your fault, Ryllan. She'd have put the thing down eventually anyway." * Vytor plunks down in a chair * Trune sits as well. Vytor finds the cushions on the sloping silver chairs to be almost too comfrtable. You might not want to get up. * Saki remains standing, possibly out of sheer defiance. * Vytor enjoys the comfyness ^_^ * Ryllan sits down, nodding at Tanan, "Possibly..." * Niri sits in her favorite chair. It's green and purple. Hiro finds a ncie spot to take a laod off, crossing his arms on the table. « er load » * Trune sits straight in his chair, and looks a little uncomfortable. Not that that's anything unusual with him, but... Haylee straightens her formal outfit a bit, and looks at all of your faces. She lingers particularly long on Trune's. * Trune catches the Headmistresses gaze, his own drifting to the floor. [Haylee] So.. where to begin? There are so many questions you must have. And I have my own for you, too. How about 'what's going on'? ^^; * Saki glances up. "And 'Who was that?'." And 'Why? * Niri nods. "Yeah...and does John know anything about that woman, or her powers?" ...Just to round the questions out. [Haylee] Hmm. Yes, the strange black-garbed woman calling herself the Prophetess. She appears to be an expert in time magic, something wielded only by my husband Johnathan. At least, that's what we thought nefore she arrived. [Haylee] We were aware of something strange affecting the flow of mental powers recently, though were unable to lcoate the exact source. She is very powerful, able to thwart our best attempt at scrying her wherabouts. [Haylee] I was personally at the Goddess Festival on a hunch she would play her hand. Though I never imagined the results... Haylee clears her throat. * Saki closes her eyes, breathing out. "You knew about her? Are there any clues as to who she is?" You suspected she might be there? :/ * Tanan frowns. "She's somehow got ties to the vile tribe. And whatever those weird shadows were that attacked us on the way to the festival. Do we know anything else?" [Haylee] Yes, I was there for a purpose. I couldn't take action for fear that I would be made the next target, or worse. * Vytor just listens for now Haylee nods to Tanan. [Haylee] those vile you fought were actually creatures summoned from the distant past. [Haylee] The demons we encountered as well... they are an old foe, fought long ago on Lunar when we were young. [Haylee] There was a great demon named Zeio, slain by JOhnathan. But we always knew he had a much more powerful master lurking. It seems the Unraveling might have brought that master out. * Vytor (dnwwheeler@adsl-68-124-18-52.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net) Quit (Quit: ) * Saki rubs at a temple again. "So this... Zeio? Ever say anything about her?" * Vytor (dnwwheeler@adsl-68-124-18-52.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net) has joined #lunar-iog2 * Trune sets mode: +o Vytor The Vile Tribe...hmmm. I thought that was all a myth. [Haylee] I don't know the exact connection, only that they are harnassing the same forces. The name Prophetess has also been mentioned as a figure in the distant past of Lunar which fortold many things. I guess I should believe Dad more when he tells me things. ^^; [Hiro] There is a lot that's not adding up though... * Ryllan hrms, "Could she be the /same/ Prophetess? If she controls time..." [Haylee] If this is the very same Prophetess as those legends, she could be somehow trying to manipulate history for a nefarious end. The souls of the Truth Seekers are tied to this goal somehow. ...The Prophetess of the past... what prophecies did she make? * Saki furrows her brow, deep in thought as she leans against the wall. He has a good point. Were the prophecies ones of doom, or warnings, or what? [Haylee] They say she foretold the end of Lunar, and a new world being born from it's ashes. That the Goddess Althena would perish as well. She was killed as a heretic for such things. Why are the Truth Seekers' souls so important? [Haylee] The restless spirits of her companions haunted the Mystic Ruins as well, waiting for revenge. ...And that happened, didn't it? So she's not trying to make her own prophecy come true... Unless there's a prophecy we don't know of. [Haylee] That is where it gets complciated, Niri. While we are fairly normal, all of the Truth Seekers are masters of certain forms of rare magic in the old world. Hmmm. If there is another prophecy... and if we can find it... we might have her objective. So....that makes them more useful somehow.... [Haylee] We still have a good deal of our powers left after the cataclysm, as well. There is a chance she is trying to drain our essences and use it for some purpose. Yeah, I think you're right, Ryllan. Hey, Dad? You think we might find anything like that in some of the records we've recovered from ruins? [Haylee] This seems to make sense, as other than Bree's unfortunate end, everyone else is merely in a comatose state. Of course....anything like that we find might be too old. I don't know. [Hiro] Hmm, I can try to dig up something... it does sound vaguely familiar. Damon's got a book he's trying to put together about Dragonmasters. The next volume is an age of numerous heretics rising up, sometimes called the "Age of the Prophets". * ZackAway (Zack101@cpe-24-161-170-164.san.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout) If anyone would know where to look, I bet Damon would. * Trune nods, "Damon seems to know everything. He's a good person to ask." [Haylee] Very perceptive. I actually already have him working on the details of that project. If we can piece together the lostw ritings of that age, it may shed some clues on this figure's agenda. * alys (~e@adsl-69-234-99-61.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net) Quit (Ping timeout) * Zack (Zack101@cpe-24-161-170-164.san.res.rr.com) has joined #lunar-iog2 * ChanServ sets mode: +v Zack [Haylee] Also, we have to consider if the process can be reversed somehow, and the willforce put back into their bodies. [Haylee] From what I could gather with Scott Astorian, it's possible to trace where the soul is held. But it's proving very difficult. * Goentrus (ketrus@acac2411.ipt.aol.com) has joined #lunar-iog2 [Haylee] I only hope we have enough time to unravel this mystery before she strikes again... I wouldn't mind taking a look at the known prophecy, either. See what can be gleaned from it. * Saki has looked lost to the conversation thanks to her thoughts, but responds as she looks up. "... then why wait?" * Goentrus is now known as Ketrus * Vytor continues to listen, mulling things over in his head [Haylee] Miss Saki, was it? Warding of the towns of New Raculi and New Takkar is going on as we speak. Since we know Leon Blackfire and Ishtar Sylvain will be targets, we won't be surprised a second time. * Saki crosses her arms, holding Haylee's gaze. "... will not being surprised be enough? New Meribia's guards and the Astorian dojo hardly seemed to hold her back." It's better than nothing, isn't it Saki? Might it be better to move them? Centralize the defenders in a single area? [Haylee] It's fairly easy to negate time magic in certain areas, and that seems to be her main strength. I'd like to have the leaders come to the Academy's walls, but in this world it's diffcult to organzie disparged groups quickly... There's some risk in that it'd give her only one target, I know, but even if she has to make two trips, if we can't /stop/ her, we're done anyway. Haylee looks at you again, pointed eras twiching once. "Its wonderful that you're concerned about our safety. But I'm also worried about yours." « er ears » [Haylee] You seemed to catch the Prophetess' attention for a certain reason... Who did? But what reason? She could have taken us down right there if she wanted to... We did. She stared at all of us. [Haylee] That's true. But she didn't. She almost seemed intimidated. Intimidated? she knocked me right into the stands with a simple wave of her hand... Why would she be intimidated of /us/? * Saki glowers at Haylee for a moment, keeping quiet. * Tanan looks around the table at everyone. "if she's a prophet, and a time mage... maybe it's not us now, but something that we do? Or cause?" * Vytor shrugs, clearly out of his element on this one * Ryllan hrms, "That still doesn't answer the question of why she didn't smite us then and there. Unless we will do something necessary to her plan..." Maybe we become something she'll fear down the line. * Trune shrugs. Maybe both. Maybe something she wants to happen depends on one of us, but maybe it could go wrong too Either way, she didn't attack us at the Festival, I don't think she'll attack us until we do whatever it is she needs us for." * Saki shakes her head, clutching at her temple once more as she winces. "... I swear I recognize her... she looked right /though/ me, dammit..." Hey... are you all right? [Haylee] It's certainly possible. But we can't assume anything for sure right now. I'd be careful if you intend to travel beyond here. * Saki wavers on her feet for the briefest of moments, but after a deep breath manages to look tolerably human again. She glances over at Tanan, looking a trifle haunted. "... just... feel very out of place. I want to know who the /hell/ she is," she replies, anger creeping into her voice. Haylee shoots a glance of concern at Saki. "Mmm... I wish I could give you the answer, Saki. I will have it soon." I think we all do. She just came out of nowhere... * Ryllan hmms, "Until we learn more about this Prophetess, is there anything we can do to help gather the probable targets where it's safe?" You all notice that it's getting quite dark, the city's lights standing out among the inky blue night as it falls. * cheesed_off (dnwwheeler@adsl-68-124-18-52.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net) has joined #lunar-iog2 * Vytor (dnwwheeler@adsl-68-124-18-52.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net) Quit (Connection reset by peer) * cheesed_off is now known as Vytor * TheStoryteller sets mode: +o Vytor [Haylee] I have a few suggestions as to how you can help us organize, but I think for now it might be best if we postponed this discussion for tomorrow. * Ketrus (ketrus@acac2411.ipt.aol.com) Quit (Ping timeout) [Haylee] There may be some new information by then as well. And I'm sure you all must be very tired from the ride here. That sounds pretty good to me [Haylee] It's also come to my attention that you've brought Jack with you as well. Yeah, he's in bad shape * Tanan nods. "Wouldn't have been right to leave him. And we hoped maybe he could get some kind of help.. or maybe help you figure out how to get some kind of help." * Ryllan looks as though he wants to say something, but holds it back. [Haylee] I've had him sent to the finest facilities on campus, under the direction of the willforce specialist Prof. Zachariah McVrey. * Trune tenses visibly. [Haylee] The staff of the restorative magic department should be able to discover what we can do for him, and hopefully Scott as well. Good [Haylee] I've set aside a few dorm rooms for you to stay in that aren't too far from it either, in case you want to check up on him, Vytor. * Niri glances at Hiro. "Hey Dad, are we staying here then? We should send a message to Mom..." Yeah, I'd like that [Hiro] I've also got my own business to see to in the Library and Archaeological departments. You can come too, Niri. ;) * Ketrus (ketrus@aca74b0f.ipt.aol.com) has joined #lunar-iog2 Uh...Hiro, is it possible I can take a look at those books you found in the ruins? All right! Maybe they've finished transcribing some of those old crumbling documents we found on the previous expedition. Oh, the ones talking about the elements? * Trune nods. Okay with me, I guess. Maybe you can learn something from them that we overlooked.... * Trune smiles geniunely, "Thanks." Hiro nods to Niri and Trune. "Just for tonight Niri. I'll get a telepath to drop it off immediately." Mind if I tag along to the Library? I wouldn't mind doing some research of my own. Okay then, Dad. And hey, sure. The more the merrier, right? * Tanan sighs. "I should probably hit my office and start making arrangements. I have a feeling I'm not going to be doing any teaching anytime soon." * Saki is leaning a little weakly against the wall, but glances at Tanan and nods, looking to Haylee. "... is there any way to easily get a message to Meribia?" Haylee nods at Tanan. "I really appreciate the great lengths you've went to so far. I hereby allow you an indefinite leave of absence... provided you keep an eye out for these brave young people." She grins. Haylee turns to face Saki. "You can have our telepaths deliver messages anywhere in the civilized world. The donation is waived for you." Ooh, hear that? We're brave! It's almost like a field trip. Except that whole fighting for our lives thing. That's what makes it fun! * Tanan buries his face in his hands, though his tone makes it clear he's joking. "Heaven help me this is my job now." Hiro laughs. She's starting to sound like him. * Trune glances at Niri, "Uh...that's not what I was IMPLYING, but...whatever floats the boat." ;) No, that's what makes it dangerous. Learn the difference. * Vytor (dnwwheeler@adsl-68-124-18-52.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net) Quit (Quit: ) [Haylee] Also, before I forget. * Saki nods once, then leans her head back against the wall, closing her eyes and waiting for the group. [Haylee] As a reward for doing your best to save jack's life, please accept this as a token of my appreciation... Haylee waves a hand idly and a drawer opens by itself, and a colored paper flies out and lands in Niri's hands. Taking a good look, you notice it's a coupon good for a face value of 3000 credits, redeemable in silver smelting services at the 'Hylan's Hand Smithing Co'. * TheStoryteller changes topic to '-= Chapter 3 - School Daze | Location: Hylan Academy, Main Bldg. | 4100 § | 5 MXP =- OOC chan at #iog-ooc ' Whoa...thanks a lot, Headmistress. O_o Oooh! Thanks, Haylee! * Niri waves it. "Looks like we're gonna make some nifty new junk!" * Tanan leans over to look at the paper. "Wow. Thanks!" * Ryllan looks at the note, eyes slightly bugged, "Wow. Thank you, Headmistress." [Haylee] Just my way of helping you protect yourselves a little better. Soend it wisely, alright? « er spend » [Haylee] Just ask the staffers to direct you to the Katarina bldg. Your rooms should be on the second floor, near all the services you might need. * Saki doesn't respond beyond nodding a little, eyes still closed. Thanks again, Headmistress. [Haylee] Well, a lot of you are former students of mine... it's only natural to watch out for you. * Ryllan nods, "Some of us more successful than others." He chuckles slightly, "Thanks." We appreciate it. Thanks again! So...is there anything else, or should we head for the library? Eh, we can head to the library. It's getting late, I don't want to get there and have it be closed, yanno? [Haylee] No, no. You're free to go. Let's meet again tomorrow to finish this up. * Saki breathes out again, opening her eyes as she pushes off the wall. She looks a little more centred and in control again. * Tanan stands up. "Should we all meet back here tomorrow, then?" Early, if possible. We don't know how much time we actually /have/ * Trune nods, "That sounds fine." See you later, Haylee! I'm glad you're all right. Hiro arises from his seat and moves towards the door. "Sounds good to me. I'll have everything done by then." Haylee smiles to Niri. "Same here. Keep up with your music practice." Oh, you bet I will. I'm just sorry we haven't had time for lessons lately... * Niri gets ready to head for the library * Trune also gets ready, nodding again in thanks to the Headmistress as he heads to the door. Haylee looks a bit disappointed as well. Leaving it at that she ushurs you politely out of the fancy office. The door does it's vanishing act again, and you find that you're now right back in the lobby instead of the 10th floor hallway. Handy trick... The group heads their seperate ways for now, set upon their individual desires around the Academy grounds. There is much Enlightenment to be found in it's venerable halls, but this mystery of the past and the future is far from being solved... == SESSION END == * TheStoryteller sets mode: -m TAH DAH :D Session Close: Sat May 14 01:47:11 2005
