Following a tipoff from a Ramus store clerk, you hustle down the wide thoroughfare. It is so strange to see it devoid of the throngs of people who would normally be enjoying the lovely day. * Vytor continues down the street at full speed In the distance you can still hear some of the sounds of battle as the citizens of Meribia defend themselves against this surprise attack. Thankfully, the damage seems minimal at this point. << Fast friends? ;) >> «ooc: I was just gonna say... ;) » * Saki is going hell-for-leather; if it weren't for the fact that she's not actually sure of the way she'd be outpacing the others. As it is, she keeps distance with Vytor. « er 6 friends » « and heh. yes. pun ;) » * Niri looks around as they run, keeping an eye out for danger and any sign of their destination or related trouble. * Trune follows behind the others, still looking rather reluctant and wary of any other attack. * Ryllan charges as fast as he can, watching the passing buildings and streets carefully for trouble. It's not long before you reach the intersection of the Commercial District. Main Street curves away to your left. Hanging in the skies over the area is a thin smoke as a few stores are burning. Whatever it is, it's big enough that she's riskin' the entire town going after her. * Vytor quickens his pace She's not risking the town, she's outright wrecking it I'm not sure she cares if they do, Trune. Several stalls are overturned like a whirlwind came through, the fine wares ruined. The owners have either fled or worse. Thankfully, two brave merchant guild members are guarding the street farther in, trying to take stock of the situation. Then she's right crazy, then. * Saki speeds up to match Vytor's pace, staying silent. Her gaze is set into a hard glare. I'll say... * Vytor presses on towards Jack's shop [Merchant] Hey you there! Where are you going? Jack's shop! * Saki follows after Vytor, turning her glare on the poor merchant. "Through." [Merchant] Are you sure?? There still were monsters over there! We wouldn't be riskin' our necks otherwise, now would we? Which is why we're going! * Saki ignores the warning, continuing onwards. Which is the entire point. Move. *Doesn't slow down, even as he approaches the merchants* The two men don't stand in your way, more concerned with their own business woes than trying to lecture anyone. Farther down the lane you can see the tall facade of Ramu's Factory Outlet, rising above it's sister chain stores. To the right of it is the street upon which Jack's repair shop lay. Almost there! As you run towards it, you then begin to notice a few bodies of dead Vile troopers, much like the ones you slew. A wounded female city guard with red hair, a horn and pointed ears is taking cover in a nearby store who's glass windows have been shattered. « er whose » * Scrollreader is now known as Red_Aerll_Orcs * Vytor keeps going, having no means to help the wounded [Guard] ...reinforcements? * Saki skids to a halt, yelling over to the woman. "Where is she?! Where's the woman?" Without waiting for a reply she begins frantically looking around. * Ryllan stops by the woman, nodding, "You could say that. What's the situation?" Kind of! [Guard] Most of the monsters have been routed... not without some losses. The area is still not entirely secure. Have you seen any sign of old man Jack? * Niri looks around frantically [Guard] Jack was protecting his store, axe in hand. I don't know how he's faring, since I've had to pull back to this position. Don't worry about it. We're heading that way. * Saki growls, whirling on the wounded guard for a moment then cursing under her breath, immediately springing off after Vytor once again/ «ooc: . » * Ryllan nods, "Take a breather, you've done good." He then rises and follows Saki. * Niri darts forward, after the others! [Guard] Just don't get yourselves killed... in tne minutes the militia is on the way! « er ten » Right! Thanks! * Trune heads after the others. Hiro nods once to the woman for her valor and keeps a lookout for any trouble. [Hiro] Niri... your friends might want to take a minute to catch their breaths. We don't know what's up ahead. > "Sure we do," Ryllan quips, "Trouble." But what if Jack's in trouble? Were you going to scout ahead or something? * Niri looks around Can anyone do any healing? I can, a little. Uh. Um. *cough* Sorta. [Hiro] That's what I meant. Ryllan, you of all people should realize you're not looking so good right now... * Saki skids to a halt, clearly impatient and antsy. Every moment she glances around towards the road to Jack's shop. "... we don't have time..." * Tanan gathers a little ball of energy in his hands. "Ryllan, right? Here you go." * Niri glances at Saki. "Well, Dad's got a point. We don't have time for anyone to get killed, either. Especially if there are more monsters ahead, which there almost certainly are! * Niri bounces anxiously on her toes. * Ryllan grins, stepping closer to Tanan, "Thank you... Tanan, was it?" >> Tanan casts Restore on Ryllan! He Recovers 69 HP! * Tanan nods. * Trune glances back at Niri, "You sounded way too perky there, purple-hair, considering death is in that direction." Death for who? Us, or Jack? That's why we have to get moving! Unless you just want to let him die... * Niri makes a face at Trune. * Saki glances over the party, nods once without much compassion, and is immediately off in Vytor's direction. No, I didn't, Geez, melodrama. * Vytor is still running [Hiro] Just playing it safe. Let's get going! «ooc: didn't = don't. » * Tanan nods, and starts following again * Trune follows Vytor once more. Vytor, having not let up at all is the first to reach the storefront. The giant sign with Jack's smiling face is now sadly on the ground, and there is smoke and steam rising from the gaskets in the rooftop. You can see quite a few more bodies, mxied with what seems like mangled steel of an unusual workmanship. * Niri sniffs and follows after the others. Inside it is filled with a lot of smoke and steam from fires and machines out of whack. Picking your way through the debris on the floor, you notice that Jack's Barbarella Axe is not on the wall mount. The trapdoor leading to the basement garage is not only open, but it's torn and mangled like something twice as big as a person forced it's way through. Jack! * Niri hurries to see what is downstairs in the garage. * Niri is close behind Vytor! * Trune coughs and tries to clear some smoke and steam from his face as he follows. * Vytor makes for the garage * Ryllan follows Vytor towards the garage. * Saki follows the group down carefully, keeping a close watch out. Heading down the dimly lit stairway, you nearly lose your footing several times. The stairs beneath your feet are cracked and abrased, like a fully loaded Land Cruiser's treads were pounding over them. Jack! I wonder what happened here? Probably more of what happened out there * Saki looks into the gloom. "Three guesses." I hope we're not too late, but things don't look good... * Vytor keeps looking [Hiro] Just what monstrosity was zooming down here like a ramp? That's a REALLY good question. What was Jack building down here, anyway? Something really big? Or up, for that matter... Hmm. This "Prophetess" didn't need anything more than herself... *He looks at Vytor* Was anything down here that could have done this to the stairs? Yeah, you could say that <> Uh....could you be more specific? * Saki doesn't join in the discussion further, instead just concentrating on picking her way safely down the beaten stairs. He was trying to recreate the ...what was it called? Oh yeah, the Destiny ...Would he have left, if the situation here turned for the worse? Maybe Further and further down you go, and hit the landing of the abused staircase. The floruescent tubes on the cieling are sputtering and fizzling as the light is cast unevenly. Adjusting to the conditions, you notice the nearby bays of the garage house all sorts of strange contraptions. Maybe they worked once, but they are assuredly all hunks of junk now. Said junk is strewn all about the area. The way it is flung about suggests it was ripped through in an attempt to locate something. The experimental bays Vytor remembers on the far end seem to be blocked by a wall of scrap. Someone was looking for something.... Someone wanted something he was building The way it stands suggests it could have been placed in haste as a barricade. * Ryllan nods, "Any idea what?" Sure looks that way. * Vytor makes for the barricade * Saki growls loudly, slamming a hand into a metal railing. "We missed her...!" Shaking her head, she walks into the center of the garage, looking at the barricade of scrap. * Niri starts as Saki hits the railing. Jack must have set up this barricade to protect his Destiny prototype As Vytor walks closer to the makeshift fort you hear a grinding metal sound.. Well, based on the damage up there, it might not have wo---oh crap. Did you guys hear that? ..? What's that noise? It echoes through the enclosed chamber. * Ryllan looks at Saki, "Look. Calm /down/. You can't do anything if you're working on emo- ...Ah hell, now what?" A blast of steam jets out from a pile of what you though was junk and nearly singes Saki! Look out! Could there still be someone back th- whoa! * Saki shoots a glare at Ryllan, then blinks and practically bends over backwards to avoid the jet of steam before twisting out of reach. * Vytor goes to check out the steam burst Eep! Following the superheated water, is more of that grinding sound, like an engine revving into high gear. In an instant of pure power, something shakes off the metal covering it with a thunderous roar! * Vytor jumps back! Oh damn we're so screwed! Uh oh! O_o Get back! * Trune steps back without a moment's hesitation. Metal parts go flying everywhere, between ducking them you make out what appears to be a large metallic knight... 10' tall and mounted on all terrain tank treads. From it's back protrudes all sorts of pipes, belching out soot and steam from a boiler mounted on it's rear. o_O; I don't remember Jack making one of those! It's actually very cool...well, would be if it WASN'T TRYING TO KILL US! In it's hand are two deadly blades. The overall construction of the machine is like nothing Vytor has seen. It is very rough, and certainly not from this era's craftsmans. * Saki bunches her hands into fists, brow furrowing as the pile of junk reveals itself to be a mechanical guard. She moves into stance, tossing her head once. "Then let's say he didn't, and take it apart for him." What... what in the world IS that? * Ryllan draws his daggers, but is careful to not make a hostile move, calling out, "Whoever's in there, don't attack. We're not with them!" A rivet or two and a dent show that it was slightly damaged in a previous scuffle. The terads are also somewhat battered, likely the stairway.. How do you know someone is in there? The machine makes another deafening rev/roar and charges you with all pistons firing!! * Ryllan looks at Trune, "I /don't/ But it's worth a try. I'm not a fan of getting killed without a reason." * Vytor backs away, his hammer in his hands Incoming! >> COMBAT! * Saki growls wildly, gritting her teeth with a manic grin. "Come on, you oversided bucket!" Watch out, I don't think this thing is friendly! * Trune takes out his athames, and glances at Niri again, "No, you THINK?" * Niri grabs her boomerang! >> Boss Battle: Grindery Steam Knight! Oh, shut up, you. * Trune smirks and focuses back to the task on hand. * Ryllan steps forward, "Grand. Guess we do have to dance." [Hiro] Holy cow! That thing is huge! What is this thing even... where'd it come from? Where'd she find it? >> Ally Front: Hiro, Ryllan, Saki, Vytor, Tanan >> Ally Rear: Niri, Trune Whatever it is, I don't think Jack made it.... I've never seen anything like this before >> Declaration Phase. [Hiro] A machine like this must have a power source.. they always do. We've got to disable it! * Niri eyes the knight, figuring her boomerang will probably just bounce off its metal hide... * Niri looks over the others in the group. * Saki tosses her head once more, registering Hiro's words as she looks over the contraption. * Trune begins to trace a pattern in the air with his athames, and a dark purplish trail of color is left in the pattern's wake, "Right then." * Tanan glances at Hiro. "Any ideas how, sir?" If its steam powered it needs a boiler! A big one! Hiro takes out his boomerang and begins charging it with mental energy... >> Steam Knight raises it's blades, looking at Vytor with empty steel eyesockets. * Niri eyes Vytor, nods to herself, and begins to focus. "Hey, big guy! Get ready for a boost!" I may need it in a moment o_o; * Ryllan readies his daggers, searching for a weak point in the machine. * Tanan raises his hands in front of his chest, a little ball of light forming between them. >> Battle Phase. >> Hiro throws out his boomerang in a wide arc, as a vortex of wind surrounds the group! Counterattacking enabled! [Hiro] That aught to do the trick! Hey, thanks! >> Saki's action. * Saki turns side on to the machine, watching it carefully as she bunches her fists harder, her gaze intensifying on the pipes and the rumbling machinery on the back of the monstrosity as she prepares to attack at full strength. >> Saki engages Flicker of Embers stance - stats altered! * Kara is now known as Huw >> Steam Knight rumbles forward, coming down hard on Vytor with it's weapons! 1: 35! 2: 34! ...OW! >> Ryllan's action. * Niri winces in sympathy. * Vytor swats at the robot's attacking arm! >> Whoops. Vytor coutners! 28! >> Now Ryllan. * Ryllan charges forward, slashing viciously at the robot. That reallt hurt o_o; >> Ryllan strikes.. 1: Miss! 2: 19! « correction. 1 hit. you connect. :) » >> Vytor's action. * Vytor grasps his weapon in both hands, and centers himself for a charge. He then sprints forward at incredible speed, and gives his weapon a mighty swing! With a sharp *CRACK*, it connects with his target's chin and sends his enemy flying! >> Vytor uses Batter Up! His hammer makes a noticable dent in it's armor for 48 damage. >> Niri's action. Better take my strength...you need it more! Crescendo! * Vytor looks somewhat disturbed at the lack of damage to the outer casing * Niri begins to sing, a melody of encouragement that grows stronger and clearer, its tone resonating across the battlefield. Her strength flows out of her own body, her voice infusing Vytor with power! Woo! Thanks! >> Niri sings Crescendo.. Vytor's Muscle increases by 25%, and her own ebbs by the same amount. >> Trune's action. Voices in the Night, Whispers from Beyond. Spirits of dark, be a source of power.. Mimir's Well! * Trune holds his athames out to his side, curls of shadowy energy swirling about his body as a spidery string of arcane words slips from his tongue. He then holds his athames outwards, and the shadowy energy draws inwards and then dissapears. * Niri grins at Vytor, then stumbles and flails her arms! "Whoops!" She regains her footing, looking embarrassed. ^^; >> A familair darkness augments Trune's powers.. Talent up 25%! >> Tanan's action. * Tanan releases the energy he's gathering, letting it shower over Vytor. "That looked painful. Let me help you out there..." Thanks >> Tanan uses Restore! Vytor regains 70 HP. * Vytor looks much better after Tanan's efforts >> Steam Knight's rear pipes begin to howl a high pitched whistle and belch out a cloud of soot-fileld smoke at Ryllan! >> Engulfed in its choking fumes he passes out.. It's whistling pipes seem to calm down, as pressure is stabilized. * Saki nods once in reply, glaring at the robot and hunkering down as she faces down it's charge. * Tanan raises a hand, a small rock forming and floating in it, slowly beginning to spin Think you're gonna take us out, you hunk of metal? That's just a pipe dream! * Niri prepares a spell! Hiro chuckles to himself and readies the Sword of Althena to strike a deadly blow... * Trune begins to trace another pattern in the air. She manages to slam one fist into the boiler and then her other before the machine's movements force her to take to the air, driving a foot into it before she kicks away to land. >> Saki attacks the vulnerable point with flurry of blows! 1: 32! 2: 31! 3: 33! * Tanan shakes his head. Stormclouds form and quickly swirl in a small area directly above her, and then a bolt of energy shoots from above to strike the enemy. Mother Green, Grant me a limb, and strike! Vine Whip! * Trune concentrates as a large vine suddenly pokes up from one of the cracks in the ground. Growing at an alarming rate, it suddenly wraps itself around Steam Knight's midsection, drawing it up into the air before slamming it down to the ground! The vine quickly unwraps itself and begins to wither, then dissapears. >> Trune summons forth the fury of nature, and what a fury it is indeed! Steam Knight is Vulnerable to Plant! >> 137 damage! ;_; Darn, immune! The Steam Knight roars and revs in frustration, as parts of it become rusty after the plant's vicious attack. >> Tanan's action. * Niri glares at Trune! ...What? Is the Princess upset? * Tanan closes his hand, the small rock inside dribbling out in a trickle of sand. A large spike of earth bursts from the ground beneath the Steam Knight, shattering into four rocks which come tumbling back down >:| * Niri mutters to herself and focuses on deciding her next action. There's a fun part to hangovers? * Trune quickly traces another pattern into the air, with the same greenish colored tinge, "There's more where that came from!" The pipes begin belching superheated steam this time in Trune's direction... * Saki has an angry, wild glint in her eye as she sizes up the robot, ready to dash forward into another attack. * Tanan smiles wryly, raising his shield. "Sleeping's a blast, at any rate." Saki steadies her balance for a moment, then drives her fists down into the mass of pipes at the top of the boiler, pounding them repeatedly. >> Saki attacks with a flurry of hits.. 1: CRITICAL! 66! 2: 31! 3: 30! >> Tanan is Defending! You know, whoever you are, you might want to take Ryllan's advice and focus instead of harassing Miss Salyan. That's not a goo-... oh geez that looks painful. The control layout of the LC Destiny is exactly the same as what you'd expect, though the body is markedly different. The handling must be must tighter with 4 axles instead of the normal 3. The key fits perfectly, and turns the well-greased cylinder with ease. The Lovelace engine within the chasis comes to life with what almost seems like a roar of excitement.
