Vytor Nicolas Dunbar
Artificer / Adventurer
Vytor
Vitals:
Age: 20
Height and Weight: 6'2" and 230 lbs.
Weapon of Choice: Hammer

Appearance:
Stands at 6' 2" high, and a solid 230 lbs (mostly muscle). He has a plain face with no blemishes. He has clear blue eyes that sparkle when he smiles. Has fairly short and straight blue hair that tends to play around his face when the wind blows. He wears a simple brown cloth work vest over a plain white work shirt. The sleeves are usually rolled up to make short sleeves. Wears black fingerless gloves with thick gray bands on the wrists. Vytor has a broad leather work belt over his shirt and simple green trousers. Heavy traveling brown boots are worn on the feet. When he decides to carry his weapon, he generally dons a second leather belt from which his Hammer hangs off of from. Otherwise his weapon belt is hanging from a hook on the wall in his home. His birthmark at the base of his spine normally cannot be seen unless he removes his shirt. The mark is a black alchemical symbol that reads "6-12".

Personality:
Vytor is a hard worker and is dependable. He sticks to his tasks and dislikes leaving things unfinished. He doesn't like to complain, and sometimes gets himself into situations that he'd rather not be in because of this. If he agrees to do something, he holds himself to it. He's reasonably friendly to strangers, but turns cold quickly if he's met with hostility. He doesn't enjoy fighting very much, and isn't really used to it yet. He tends to take on a 'big brotherly' role when dealing with those younger than him, especially with those he likes.

Motivation:
Vytor wants to become a great silver alchemist, and be a part of rebuilding the world. He's also grown somewhat increasingly dissatisfied with remaining sequestered away in research lab. He wants to go back out and see the world (although he can't bring himself to admit that to anyone).

Background:
(Portion Redacted due to Secrets. Will be revealed in time! -GM)

It was some time after this that the abandoned baby was discovered by explorers. Completely stunned by the discovery, and unwilling to leave a baby in the middle of nowhere, the explorers took the baby with them. They had no idea where the baby had come from, but the fact that they managed to find something alive in those frozen wastes seemed like a good omen. The explorers returned to New Meribia, and took the baby to a physician. After some exams, the baby was given a clean bill of health, given proper immunization, and was placed for adoption.

The story of the miracle baby was a short-lived sensation, and many wished to adopt the child. Eventually, the child was given to Cyrano and Ea Dunbar, who themselves were explorers of some fame (they were the ones who mapped out the far Bluetooth glacier fields). They took several years off from their explorations while they raised their new son, who they named Vytor. Eventually Ea gave birth to a daughter that they named Tilea. After a year or so, the fervor around the miracle baby died away and was eventually forgotten. The bizarre birthmark on the small of Vytor's back was a puzzle to all who knew about it. The significance of the numbers was eventually explained away as being Vytor's birthday (June 12th).

Vytor's childhood was pretty ordinary, getting into trouble, fighting with his sister, and generally driving his parents crazy. Vytor showed great talent for building things out of whatever he could find, and his parents encouraged this behavior. He was well liked by the local children, and had many childhood friends.

When Ea was away from the house, grandma Beille took care of the children, and quite well, although she tended to spoil them. But the day came when she finally passed away when Vytor was 8. The whole family grieved for the loss of such a wonderful old woman. She left a tidy sum of money to the family and a sealed note for Vytor, which was marked for his eyes only. Inside, she told Vytor to ask his parents about where and how he was found. Puzzled, he asked his parents what his grandmother meant. It was then that they decided to tell him that he was adopted, and that he was found abandoned in the frozen wastes of the north. It took Vytor a few months before he really understood, but by then he really didn't care anymore. Cyrano and Ea had always been his mother and father, and nothing had changed in his eyes. There was a small, deep part of him that still wonders (to this day) who his real parents were, and why he was abandoned.

More time would pass, the parents began to take his children with them on their expeditions. They taught their children how to survive in the wild, and to defend themselves if attacked. The children tried very hard to be helpful, but Vytor just wasn't cut out for scholarly work, and he had trouble keeping his facts straight. He eventually decided to forgo the excursions altogether, preferring to make things with his hands. Ea saw his budding talents, and began to look for ways for Vytor to explore that talent.

It was during this that Ea's searches came to the attention of Jack and Chrissy. They were eager to find those with talent for making things, and an invitation was sent. Although Vytor was not thrilled about leaving home for months at a time, the opportunity did interest him. He packed a single bag of his belongings, and made his way west.

A year of instruction and tutoring would pass, and Vytor began to show real promise at being a talented smith. Despite being somewhat of a klutz, Vytor worked hard, and it showed. Of the many acolytes working in the lab, Vytor stood out as one of the best, something which pleased him greatly. Many happy letters were mailed home, telling his mother and father about all the new and amazing things he was learning how to do. During the summer, he was sent home to be with his family for a few wonderful months, but soon enough he was back at the lab, working hard again. This went on for four years. Jack and Chrissy continued to watch, pleased with the progress that Vytor was making. He was achieving a level of skill and proficiency that was often only seen in those some years his senior. Eventually, they offered to have Vytor join in an important project of theirs - silver transmutation. Vytor was fascinated by this, and became even more fascinated as he watched it in action. He accepted the invitation without hesitation, and ran to his room to write an excited letter home. To his surprise, a messenger was already waiting for him, saying only that he was needed at home, immediately.

Vytor returned home, and found Jonathan and Haylee Hylan waiting for him. His sister was there as well, as well as a few others that Vytor didn't know. It was here that he discovered that his mother and father had lost their lives exploring the Bluetooth glacier fields, and offered their most sincere condolences. His parents had been sent by the Hylans to look into rumors of an ancient ruin that had been frozen in the ice, and had stumbled into a patch of radioactivity that killed them and 3 others instantly.

Vytor was devastated, and was inconsolable for days. Both he and his sister became lost in their grief, having no other remaining family to turn to. Funeral services were held, but neither Vytor nor Tilea were in a condition to attend. While the siblings grappled with their grief, the Hylans met with several individuals to try and decide what was to be done. It was decided that Vytor would return to the lab, at it was the only place akin to a home he had left. Tilea would return with the Hylans, where she would continue the training she had started there. While they were uncomfortable about separating the children, it was decided that it was for the best.

Vytor returned to the lab, and worked out his grief on the forge. He threw himself into his work with greater passion and zeal than before, and flourished. Both he and his sister became accomplished in their respective fields. They wrote each other often, usually several times a month, and arranged to see each other whenever they could.

Those who lived and worked in the lab eventually became Vytor's surrogate family, and this helped him tremendously. In time he came to terms with his loss, and in doing so was able to help Tilea come to grip with hers. With both children now at peace with their past tragedy, they turned their attentions back to their respective interests.

By the time Vytor turned 17, he had become a budding alchemist himself. Able to make simple tools from the alchemical forge, Vytor had a knack for making things, and seemed able to completely visualize a project from beginning to end. Jack and Chrissy had long seen his talent grow and blossom over the years, and he had come far enough to be able to not only explain the process, but make demonstrations as well. Vytor would travel with various company representatives, and show everyone how the alchemical forge worked. Vytor's natural enthusiasm and skill helped make the concept of the alchemical forge a success.

By Vytor was growing discontent with his life. He wanted to get out into the world, and explore. He communicated this to his sister, who also was growing stir crazy. They decided that it was time for a vacation. They explained their desired to their superiors, who while not pleased, agreed to allow them a sabbatical. For a year and a half, the two wandered around the land, surviving by their wits and skill. Vytor provided the muscle and basic survival skills, and Tilea provided magic and a near atlas-like knowledge of the land. Both had to fight off attacks by marauding mutant creatures and other unsavory sorts along the way.

It was during this trip that they made their way to the place where their parents died. While they could not approach the radioactive crevasse that killed them, they did say their last farewells. They could see the shadow of the facility that the previous explorers had tried to reach, and steered well clear of it (not liking the look of it). It was during the trip back, that they found something else. A second shadowy shape (much smaller than the city) imprisoned in the ice. Having no idea what is was, the explorers simply noted it and moved off. The two finally made their way back to New Meribia, and parted ways to return to their respective homes. Vytor returned again to the lab, to catch up on what developments he's missed. Jack and Chrissy were glad to see him again, and he eagerly returned to his training and studies.

Now approaching adulthood, Vytor has turned 20. He still lives, works and studies at the lab, under Chrissy and Jack's watchful eyes. While he does enjoy his alchemical work, the lure of adventuring still pulls at him, and vies with his sense of responsibility towards his chosen craft. Although he thinks he's hidden his feelings of dissatisfaction, he's not as secretive as he may think.
